What's Been FUN lately?
Question:
Floyd What’s the most *fun* you’ve had getting a photo lately? Getting my pictures of the WTO demonstrations. My apologies if my mailer chopped this URL into pieces: http://vp005.atm01.sea.blarg.net/~offby1/more-scans/WTO-protest-image…

A fellow photog turned the tables and made me the subject for some portfolio shots. I got to sit in a chair and watch him work for a while. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Since so many of the recent (and more cantankerous) posts in this NG have wandered a bit from its focus (remember photography? <g), I thought I’d just throw this question out in an attempt to lighten things up a bit: What’s the most *fun* you’ve had getting a photo lately? For me, the answer’s easy. <heh Today my boss volunteered (actually, somebody "volunteered" him) to be "locked up" in a Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraising "jail" – he had to spend an hour making phone calls for donations to the MDA to make his "bail". I dropped by the holding cell with a donation – I didn’t drop the cash, though, until I got a half-dozen or so good shots of him through the bars…. <G Floyd Dennis

These are great pictures! I think I will go looking for a demonstration now.

I went down to Santa Cruz last weekend and took some surfing and beach shots. The day was wonderfully overcast, the weather was nice and cool, and there were still a number of people walking along the cliffs, and playing on the beach, when I decided I didn’t want to take more surfing photos. It also gave me a chance to really test out my 75-300 IS lens, which is wonderful to use in good lighting conditions, and reconfirmed the fact that I really prefer long lenses over wide ones (although there were a couple of situations where I’d have loved to have had a 15mm lens…). — http://www.seuss.org "I have no humble opinions."

I think maybe I’ll hit the Windy city this weekend, I love to go to the John Hancock buildings and take pictures out the 94th floor. I sure hope they have clean the Windows! Any time you in Chicago, go down by the Adler Planetarium or Navy Pier and look back into the city! There just nothing that look like it anywhere! Ricky

Thank you – In fact I wanted that picture to go up first so I could…. well, you’ve got the idea. I have little to do with the design, however. [snip] It was fun shooting them and fun getting them on the travelogue site. Fairly close up shots of an artists work, she does plaster casts of peoples hands. Well, back on February 21, I went to New York City to have lunch, visit B&H Photo, and walk the streets all day taking pictures with the camera at chest level (i.e. the lowest point that it naturally would hang from one’s neckstrap), 28mm/2.8, aperture set to f/8, and a few rolls of T-Max 400 pushed to 800. Only got a few really usable shots, and of them only one will go into the portfolio. All were interesting shots, though. And I learned alot! enough that the young lovelies are still wearing spandex tights when jogging (one day I’ll put out my big coffee table book, "The View From Back Here"); THERE ARE BALD EAGLES NOT 35 MILES FROM WHERE I LIVE and getting 500mm handheld shots was a ton of fun, going back with lens, 1.7x extender, tripod, cable release, camp chair, lunch, etc., and burn about a mile of film . I just got my elan IIe for christmas. I’m teaching myself sports photography, and the most fun I’ve had is going to hockey games and sneaking down to the 1st five rows to get good shots. BTW, its almost always fun when I’m taking pictures. -omar – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Well, back on February 21, I went to New York City to have lunch, visit B&H Photo, and walk the streets all day taking pictures with the camera at chest level (i.e. the lowest point that it naturally would hang from one’s neckstrap), 28mm/2.8, aperture set to f/8, and a few rolls of T-Max 400 pushed to 800. Eric, These are _incredible_ photos! And this is exactly the type of shooting I want to do–candid street shots. Can you please tell me what equipment (camera body, lenses, film, scanner, anything else) you used to produce these images? It would be a great help to me in deciding what equipment to buy and use. Thanks, Dan (remove xspamx to send email replies)

I just returned from a trip to Germany with side trips to Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. The most fun I had taking photos was during a blinding snowstorm in the alps just trying to get pictures of lichens, trees and foliage as it lost the battle to stay uncovered. Castle shooting was fun also but the most fun was taking pictures of the participants in Fasching Munich and smaller towns in Germany. The crowds in Munich on Tuesday were frightening by the sheer mass of numbers but the costumes, the happiness, and even the drunkenness were sheer joys to see and to photograph. By the way, the fun of seeing properly exposed Fuji Provia F slides on the projector was great also. Mel

Wandering around in snow up to my hips without proper boots to get pictures of a small pine in the mountains….ended up with massive amounts of snow up my pant legs and in my boots, but it was sure fun! Chris

Since you ask, I’l just shamelessly promote my website and mention playing with my new camera – a 15.00 dollar LOMO. There is a photo from it under the link "Tip 1". Actually the site is a work "in progress", and most of the links don’t go anywhere yet. The Lomo is fun, in a strange sort of way. I was going to convert it to a pinhole, but now I think I’ll have to buy another one for that. At 15.00 I might even buy 2! Or I might just wait until the shutter in this one gives up. For those seriously considering the purchase of a Lomo, I recommend the 8M – it’s the heavier built model. Heavier is better, right? At least that’s what Nikon says. — Digital Photo restoration in Chapel Hill N.C. http://www.homeusers.prestel.co.uk/magor/tony Before you buy.
