- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Cindy Sheehan’s Diary Camp Casey, Day 18 By Cindy Sheehan 08/25/05 — – I got up really early today to head back to Camp Casey. On the way, I had some amazing conversations with people. In one of those conversations, I was talking to Tyler who was sitting next to me on one of the planes. We were not talking about me and what I have been doing. Randomly, he told me he had just been in Texas about an hour north of Crawford. I said: "Wow that’s where I am going and that’s where I have been all month." He said: "I know I own a television." I thought that was pretty cute. I got to Camp Casey and I arrived with a mom whose son, John, was killed on January 26, 2005, and his wife and baby, who never met his dad. We arrived in Waco at about 4:30 to the local press. The White House Press Corps was still with the president. When I arrived at Camp Casey II this afternoon I was amazed at what has changed since I was gone. Now, we have a huge tent to get out of the sun; caterers; an orientation tent; a medic tent (with medics); a chapel, etc. The most emotional thing for me though was walking through the main tent and seeing the huge painting on canvas of Casey. Many things hit me all at once: That this huge movement began because of Casey’s sacrifice; thousands, if not millions of people know about Casey and how he lived his life and the wrongful way in which he was killed; but the thing that hit me the hardest was how much I miss him. I miss him more everyday. It seems the void in my life grows as time goes on and I realize I am never going to see him again or hear his voice. In addition to all this, the portrait is so beautiful and moving and it captures Casey’s spirit so well. I sobbed and sobbed. I was surrounded by photographers, I looked around until I finally found a friendly face, then the news people crushed in on me and I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t mean to have such a dramatic re-entrance to Camp Casey, but the huge portrait of Casey really surprised me. I can take all of the right wing attacks on me. I have been lied about and to before. Their attacks just show how much I am getting to them and how little truth they have to tell. What really hurts me the most is when people say that I am dishonoring Casey by my protest in Crawford. By wanting our troops to come home alive and well, that I am somehow not supporting them. So, after Joan Baez gave us a great concert tonight, I got up and I talked about Casey. About the sweet boy who grew up to be a remarkable young man. Casey was not always a brave, big soldier man. He was my sweet, sweet baby once. I told the people at the Camp named after him, that when he was about 2 years old, he would come up behind me and throw his arms around my legs, kiss me on the butt and say: "I wuv you mama." I also talked about the loving big brother and wonderful, nearly perfect son. Casey was a regular guy who wanted to get married, have a family, be an elementary school teacher, and a Deacon in the Catholic Church. He wanted to be a Chaplain?s assistant in the Army, but was lied to about that also by his recruiter. The last time I talked to him when he called from Kuwait, ! he was on his way to mass. For Casey to even join the Army, let alone being killed in battle was the thing that was most uncharacteristic of him. He was a gentle and kind soul who only wanted to help others. What did his untimely and unnecessary death accomplish? It accomplished reinvigorating a peace movement that was sincere, but not very active — or if active, not well covered by the main stream media. Joan sang the song Joe Hill In it Joe Hill says: "I never died." Well, looking out at the faces here at Camp Casey, and knowing that for everyone who is present here, there are thousands of others who support our work, I am convinced that Casey never died, and he never will. When I look into the eyes of the kind and gentle souls who have come here, I see Casey and the faces of all the others killed in George Bush?s war for greed and profit. We will never forget them and we will honor them by working for peace. Joan also sang "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot." A thousand angels waiting there for me? I know Casey will be waiting for me when it is my turn, and I know when I finally get there he?’s going to hug me and say: "Good job, Mom." http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article10001.htm

Awww, sniff sniff, blubber blubber, It makes me just want to come to Texas and knock your fucking head off, you ignorant traitorous bitch.

I am so sorry Diana:( love Meryl – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My dear family; A old friend of us died this night. The news; I heard the news today A life is ended Gone away A father has died The children cry was there time to laugh, love, say goodbye? Were we too busy living our lives? Commitments, meetings, money, alibis. The time too soon is spent Life ends and we repent. And yet we should not grieve, Death is not the end merely a brief reprieve. The circle of life continues as one Life isn’t over it is only begun. I could not go to him the last days, but Albert was there a few days ago. Love Diana.

I do hope you have more in your repertoire than this. hehehe "In search of wisdom and spiritual life, a man will walk many paths before realizing they all lead to the same destination." – Vladimirus Be packing.

No relation? They are your children. Talk about denial… Not my children. I have no children despite our attemps to have them.

In context, I was clearly speaking metaphorically. They are the children of your generation.

Response:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Nonsense. It sounds like you read one of Camille Paglia’s books and took it as gospel. How droll. What you fail to understand (or realize) is that the rights gained by American women in the 60s have been spreading since that time, and continue to radiate around the globe. Me thinks someone needs to look at the gains women have made in the last 50+ years. For example there was a time when it was legal for a husband to hit his wife as long as the ruler he did it with was less than a foot long. I think it’s finally off the books now, but for over a hundred years it was legal to beat your wife on the courthouse steps on a Sunday here in South Carolina.

It’s still legal to beat your wife in most of the world. And in another story, Iran just executed a 16-year-old girl for…being a victim of rape.

Response:

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I remember how our local skinheads had some identity from the way they looked. Then the ones with no identity needed something to do so started dressing like skinheads. Then they combined forces with the skooshy hippie types that were spit out of the seventies and then the Seattle Grunge scene was born As one of those original long haired hippies from the 1960s who spent many years protesting the Viet Nam war the Grunge scene in Seattle as well as the Skinheads are of no relation to us. This is just another example of how feminists were successful in coopting the male bohemian movements of our time from the beats through to the grungers and hip hoppers and keep us all at our throats. The reality is that the male bohemian movements were ALL a reaction against feminism but were vulnerable to feminist cooption because there was no ideological focus in those movements. They were essentially spiritual movements like most men’s movements and the feminists are ideological and could run circles around them politically.

This is what you get when you take a bunch of moderates who all wanna-be ideologues, and put them all in one room ….a lot of finger pointing, and the cynical old-timers who perpetually expand their little world views to keep it all in perspective. – - – This has been another enlightening moment, with: Turin I have such sites to show you… http://members.fortunecity.com/turinturambar/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Men_First/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Men_Politics/ http://groups-beta.google.com/group/socmen2 "He who changeth, altereth, misconstrueth, argueth with, deleteth, or maketh a lie about these words or causeth them to not be known shall burn in hell forever and ever…." —– – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Tom "I spent my whole life sticking it to the man. I don’t think I can be the man." —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–== Over 100,000 Newsgroups – 19 Different Servers! =—–

I suppose you haven’t observed combat boots in a Pearl Jam mosh pit

That’s sorta tame, don’t you think? Try GWAR on for size… or knew Courtney Love took acid with the greatful dead bunch when she was a child

Actually, it was the Hog Farm, and she didn’t really "take" the acid. She was given it, or it was spiked in the drinks the kids drank. I know people from that scene. It’s possible that those experiences scarred her for life. Grunge kids were often products of illegitimate unions

That word isn’t reallly used anymore and I doubt you can post any evidence for your claim as it’s just your opinion based on your own life and people you know. of irresponsible "peace" movement members

Sounds like a generalization on your part. whom were often just predatory men in love beads

Again, I doubt that’s true. Blaming men isn’t going to work. There were plenty of women who decided to live alternative lifestyles and did just that. finding a convenient way/lifestyle to have sex without love and responsibility for their own children.

Women did this as well. The peace movement era was generally bad on women

Nonsense. It sounds like you read one of Camille Paglia’s books and took it as gospel.
Nonsense.

"I spent my whole life sticking it to the man. I don’t think I can be the man." —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–== Over 100,000 Newsgroups – 19 Different Servers! =—–

I remember how our local skinheads had some identity from the way they looked.

I suppose you haven’t observed combat boots in a Pearl Jam mosh pit or eddie vedder doing Bob Dylan songs or knew Courtney Love took acid with the greatful dead bunch when she was a child Grunge kids were often products of illegitimate unions of irresponsible "peace" movement members whom were often just predatory men in love beads finding a convenient way/lifestyle to have sex without love and responsibility for their own children. The peace movement era was generally bad on women despite it’s parrallel of second wave feminism. Fuck em and forget em, you know, aka "free love" . BTW, Nirvana used to open for the Dharma Bums. Kurt Cobain’s stated music goal was to reinvent the Black Sabbath and Beatle’s sound. King Crimson, to say nothing of Ginger Baker of Cream whom reintroduced New Orleans Jazz technique into the 60’s psychedelic fusion genre all and many more were heavy influences on the grungers. . IMO the angry alienated sound of Grunge is way part product of the failed social promises of 60’s parentage and certainly a musical bastard child of that generation. You sure don’t see the protesters of the sixties much these days anyway, most are too busy filling up their SUV’s having sold out long ago and now getting ready for early retirement. Now they seem to strictly avoid the smell of Teen Spirit and tell kids to get off their lawn har har har 1965 Courtney (Love) is born in Portland, Oregon, the only child of father, Hank Harrison, a Grateful Dead hanger-on, and mother, Linda Caroll, a trained psychotherapist.
Zinn continued, "The other lie is that American troops are bringing democracy to Iraq. You do not bring democracy by invading a country, by bombing it, by detaining people without trial, by closing down newspapers in Iraq." Human rights investigators in Iraq have reported numerous, consistent violations of basic human rights by American troops. These include detaining people for as long as six months with charges or trial.. It would seem that neither the right to a fair trial nor freedom of speech are part of democracy in the Bush administration’s eyes. Beyond these violations of human rights, the American invasion and occupation have resulted in the deaths of 685 American soldiers and between 8,875 and 10,725 Iraqi civilians (the latter figures are from Iraq Body Count, http://www.iraqbodycount.net/). "They are creating a peace plan that it is not a peace plan. It is a plan to privatize everything and leave 100,000 American troops in Iraq forever." "Legal protests did not stop the Bush administration form invading Iraq and they will not force it (or a Kerry administration) to pull out from Iraq either. [the writer then goes on to point to what worked to end Washington's assault against Vietnam: not just legal protests, but non-violent Direct Actions in the street -ED] Shakr Mustafa, an Iraqi immigrant and a professor at Boston University, said that based on his conversations with family members in Iraq, "The Iraqis were willing to give the American authorities the benefit of a doubt for months. But when you bomb a major city like Falluja and strafe it with helicopter gunships, you will not win the hearts and minds of Iraqis. Iraqis feel they have been betrayed by the American authorities. This will only perpetuate the cycle of violence. We need to break the cycle of violence. We need the American troops to leave." The American military’s assault on Falluja, a city that had not previously seen much resistance to the American occupation, was triggered by the murder of four American mercenaries (commonly described in the mainstream press by the bizarre euphemism of "civilian contractors"). The resulting attacks have resulted in the deaths of 62 American soldiers and over 600 Iraqis. In the attack on Falluja, even during the supposed ceasefire, American troops have not targeted only the armed resistance, but civilians as well. American peace activists and progressive journalists on the ground in Falluja report indiscriminate bombing of the city and sniper attacks on women, the elderly, children and ambulances. They all also report that it is pretty clear that the resistance fighters are not the isolated extremists the Bush administration claims, but have the support of most of Falluja’s population. =====story: http://boston.indymedia.org/feature/display/20983/index.php Rally Against the US Occupation of Iraq and the Siege of Falluja by Matthew Williams On Friday, April 16, 2004, in response to the devastating US attack upon the Iraqi city of Falluja, about two hundred people gathered for a protest against the US occupation on the Boston Common from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Speakers emphasized that we repeatedly have not been getting the real story. The various reasons given by the Bush administration for the invasion of Iraq, such as seeking to eliminate the Hussein regime’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD) or bringing democracy to Iraq, are false, as no WMD have been found and the Occupation authorities engage in anti-democratic actions, such as closing down opposition newspapers and imprisoning people without charges or trial. We have also not been getting the full story on Falluja–the armed resistance does not consist of a few malcontents, but has broad popular support, and the US military has targeted not just the armed fighters, but civilians, even during the supposed ceasefire. Two very different organizing strategies were visible at the protest. The organizers, United for Justice with Peace (UJP), a broad Boston-area coalition, emphasized a message of peace, that showed equal concern for the lives of American troops and the Iraqi people, in an effort to create a movement with broad appeal. Various sectarian groups, in addition to attempting to take over the protest, loudly proclaimed their support for the Iraqi armed resistance, a position that, while certainly politically legitimate, is not likely to do much for building a mass movement. [hold on just a minute. We were not there, but it seems very possible to support the Iraqi resistance by say Iraqi citizens, protecting them, and supporting nonvilent resistance, while wanting to protect US lives...and even as far as Iraqis who shoot back when soldiers shoot at them, we can STILL support the lives of US soldiers, just read the webpage www.BringThemHomeNow.com by those who REALLY Support Our Troops, their families. So there is no cotnradiction. That said, we were not there, and it is certainly possible that a wild-eyed group was being less than practical or responsible. There certainly are splinter groups like that. Their funding from the FBI sure helps them -ED] What neither UJP nor much of the American peace movement seems to have come to grips with though is that we need to move beyond legal protests to nonviolent direct action if we are going to have any substantial impact on the US government’s policy on Iraq. If there was a keynote speaker at the rally, it was renowned leftist historian Howard Zinn. He emphasized that the Bush administration justified this war based on two lies, "lies that are increasingly clear. The first lie is about weapons of mass destruction. There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The Bush administration didn’t care whether there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. It is clear they were determined to invade." The testimony of Richard Clarke, a long-time conservative anti-terrorism expert, who served several administrations and recently resigned, paints a picture of an administration dominated by ideologues, determined to invade Iraq from the day they got into office. Many CIA researchers have said they were pressured by senior members of the Bush administration to find a reason to invade Iraq, whether evidence of weapons of mass destruction or a connection with the international terrorist group al-Qeada. Testimony by UN experts now makes it clear that the UN weapons inspectors had eliminated all WMD from Iraq by 1996–seven years before the US invasion. As for a link between Saddam Hussein’s regime and the Islamic fundamentalist group al-Qaeda, this is absurd, for Hussein was a secularist whom al-Qaeda had sworn to overthrow. [and at least once, had tried to kill, in fact -ED] There is also the inconvenient but little reported fact that when Hussein was building his arsenal of chemical and biological weapons and engaging in some of his worst atrocities in the 1980s, he was doing so with the support of the Reagan and first Bush administrations, who saw him as an ally because of his invasion of the Islamic theocracy of Iran. [oh heck, he was on our payroll so that was "ok" by Washington. But his (smaller!) crimes after no longer being Obedient Wind-Up Dictator, somehow seer the soul of these Washington hypocrites -ED] Zinn continued, "The other lie is that American troops are bringing democracy to Iraq. You do not bring democracy by invading a country, by bombing it, by detaining people without trial, by closing down newspapers in Iraq." Human rights investigators in Iraq have reported numerous, consistent violations of basic human rights by American troops. These include detaining people for as long as six months with charges or trial–apparently because bewildered American troops often simply detain anyone who looks suspicious. Much of the current unrest in Iraq can be linked by the decision of the Occupation authorities to shut down a newspaper linked with Moqtada Sadr, a popular Shia cleric and vocal opponent of the American occupation. (The Shia are one of the major denominations of Islam, found predominantly in Iran and southern Iraq.) It would seem that neither the right to a fair trial nor freedom of speech are part of democracy in the Bush administration’s eyes. Beyond these violations of human rights, the American invasion and occupation have resulted in the deaths of 685 American soldiers and between 8,875 and 10,725 Iraqi civilians (the latter figures are from Iraq Body Count, http://www.iraqbodycount.net/). Paul Shannon, an organizer with the American Friends Service Committee, summarized the long-term plans of the Bush administration: "They are creating a peace plan that it is not a peace plan. It is a plan to privatize everything and leave 100,000 American troops in Iraq forever." Under Hussein’s regime, all major industries were theoretically publicly controlled. Instead of giving Iraqis a chance to decide what to with these public resources in a democratic fashion, the Bush administration has been privatizing most of these major industries, selling them off to transnational corporations based in the US and allied countries. In order to protect this order and to maintain control both of Iraq’s vast oil wealth and its strategic location in the Middle East, the Bush administration has plans to build massive US military bases in Iraq, that will remain there indefinitely, even after sovereignty has supposedly been turned over to a government composed of Iraqis. Given the history of US military intervention in Latin America to depose democratic governments whose policies conflicted with the US elite’s interests, it is questionable how much room a supposedly independent Iraqi government would have to make its own policies with 100,000 American troops already stationed there. Shakr Mustafa, an Iraqi immigrant and a professor at Boston University, said that based on his conversations with family members in Iraq, "The Iraqis were willing to give the American authorities … read more »

I received the article below this morning. It’s an interesting insight for those of us over 50. Nick — "Norhing is so strong as gentleness and nothing is so gentle as real strength" ~ Ralph W. Sockman ___________________________________________________________________________ _ _______________________________________________ Finally, It’s ‘My Time’ A Period Once Considered Retirement Age, the Author Argues, Is Now a Time to Refresh, Revive and Reimagine One’s Life By by Abigail Trafford Washington Post Staff Writer Tuesday, December 16, 2003; You’re restless. Not so young, but restless. What are you going to do with the rest of your life? You don’t look old, don’t feel old. But the kids are grown. The house is quiet. And at work? Talk of downsizing, takeovers, the R-word — retirement — and then, what? You can expect to live, and live well, for another three or four decades — an entire life span in centuries past. Instead of winding down, you have to gear up. Instead of sitting back in a rocking chair, you have to find new purpose — new work, new relationships. Longevity’s imperative is regeneration. But how do you master the art of reinvention? Bernard Hillenbrand of Washington knows. The hard-charging executive, who for decades led the National Association of Counties, went to seminary and became a minister at age 60. Eighteen years later, he’s in good health and a good marriage. "I have 20 years to go," he says with a smile. Aida Rivera of Puerto Rico knows. The high school dropout went to college when she was nearly 50 and earned a college degree to become a therapist at age 60. She now counsels women who are trapped in domestic violence. "Nothing stopped me," she says. "This is my life. I love it. In helping others, I am helping me." Mary Page Jones knows. The Alexandria native remarried at age 52, moved to Jerusalem and joined the peace movement in the Middle East. "I’ve always come up to the abyss and stepped over. A lot of it is my faith. When I step into the abyss, my experience is that I’m always caught. Something good happens," she says. But they didn’t know when they started down their new paths where they were going to end up. They didn’t know they were part of a huge demographic wave that is altering every aspect of the social landscape, from politics and sex to family life to the creative arts. A new stage has emerged in the life cycle. This bonus period comes after middle age but before old age. "It’s not like we have a lot of role models," says James Firman, president of the National Council on the Aging. The bonus decades are a "gift — years of opportunity, years of health," he continues. But no one told you that you have to write a new script for this "extra" period. "The concept hasn’t sunk in. . . . We’re all lost as a generation." It is not an easy period. There are layoffs and mammograms, retirement parties and forgetting where you left your keys. There are wrenching losses, too. Deaths of family members and close friends. Major illness. The loss of income, the loss of status in a culture geared to youth. For most people, this new phase involves some crisis and a lot of confusion. Yet it also heralds unprecedented possibility. In the early, high-stress years of juggling children and marriage and job, you get pretty exhausted from meeting other people’s needs. As one thirty-something woman wailed at a college class reunion: "When is it going to be my time?" My Time! It’s here. Get used to it. And then get ready for the ride. My Time comes when the primary tasks of adulthood have been completed, for better or for worse. Children have been raised. Marriages have been made — and remade. Career goals have been achieved — or not. You’ve paid the mortgage, filled out your r

Muslims women vs Christian/Jews sluts. The Muslim woman’s in veil focus is her home, the "nest" where her children are born and reared. She is the "home" maker, the taproot that sustains the spiritual life of the family, nurturing and training her children, providing refuge and support to her husband. In contrast, the bikinied Western Christians/Jew sluts practically naked in front of millions, she belongs to herself. In practice, paradoxically, she is public property. She belongs to no one and everyone. She shops her body to the highest bidder. She is auctioning herself all of the time.In western Christian/Jew sluts culture, the cultural measure of a woman’s value is her sex appeal

It referes to "Jane Doe’s" post showing that Chris Leithiser is still headlining an actual six year old child in the context of Joe Parsons pornography business. He is doing this in an attempt to terrorize her mother out of posting and is cashing in on damage already done by others sickening…

I have been critical of US foreign and domestic policy since I was a child so my perspective is not surprising. Nor is it surprising that although the women’s movement has been trying to bring attention to the condition of women in Afghanistan for years, the US government was not interested or concerned until "US interests" were at stake and they could use the condition of women as one of their many rationalizations for waging war. Of course, as in Viet Nam, bombing the civilian population does not serve a people since the people we claim to help live under those bombs, trying to feed and calm their children. I have never condemned our children who are sent off to fight. My criticism of US policy is not a criticism of our young people in the military or their families. The best way to care for our children is to never send them off to fight. I do not want them to die for me. War is never good for children on any side of the battle. Freedom for all citizens on all sides of the battle does not come from military might, capitalism, nor from imperial strength. Rather, it requires wise and patient diplomacy, education, cultural exchange and economic assistance without dominance. Sometimes people feel they must pick up a gun to defend a village. Perhaps this is a different choice than when a nation is dedicated to be a world power. I have never lived in a village being attacked by a major power. But I saw what Viet Nam looked like when the US bombed that country "in order to save it". I have heard the tragic stories of the people of Panama when the US bombed neighborhoods and shoved the dead into mass graves. I understand when people from other parts of the world are stunned to see US citizens behave as if the attack on NYC was the first time civilians have ever been attacked. It seems people all over the world know that the US government has used the CIA and secret forces to undermine one struggling democracy after another, punishing those democratic governments who would not allow US business to continue as usual in their countries. Why don’t Americans remember this? The US is not the only nation that does terrible things. But the US is not exempt and I have no interest in supporting a world power. World powers and empires are not good for the world or for future generations. If a world power was growing somewhere else on the planet we would be concerned for our safety. In fact, the US government used that very concern to build up our massive defense systems. People all around the world are concerned for their safety because the US has become a dominating military and economic force that will not work cooperatively with other nations. For me, freedom at the expense of other citizens of the world as well as here at home is a questionable freedom. How many people should the US kill in order for some US citizens to have the comforts to which a small segment of our population has become accustomed. What is the right ratio? Criticism of power is not new. Martin Luther King loved humanity and so he criticized racism which meant he criticized the US domestic policy. When he understood what was happening in Viet Nam, he criticized that war. He wasn’t criticizing the thousands of black youth in the military being used for cannon fodder. He was trying to bring them home alive. Criticism of the government is a good thing. It is essential to maintaining civility. And when one starts to believe that one should follow the government mindlessly as it goes out of control, then one has failed the basic principles of democracy. A healthy government can withstand a healthy debate. A healthy government requires critical thinking. But if it has something to hide, it "discourages" criticism by any means and asks the people to support it unconditionally. After September 11th, Bush made it clear that all the nations of the world should be "behind us" and that nations were either "with us or against us". That is a shocking and insulting threat to the world. Here at home, there are many people who are afraid to voice their opinions at work for fear of being accused of being unpatriotic. Others sit unrepresented in jail because they "appear" or are of Arab decent. Bush has set up an open-ended state of war and makes it clear that criticism and dissent in this highly sensitive time will be viewed as a threat to national security. This is a frightening and dictatorial standard. A peace movement will grow from this historic tragedy, as it always does when events call on humanity to step up to clear thinking. Just as powerful nations have used tragedy to promote power hungry agendas, so will people dedicated to world-wide social justice movements rise in the smoke to take the next step towards higher consciousness and it is with them that I choose to walk in this world. As Gandhi said, "When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it always." – Mahatma Gandhi

Article by the Liberty Underground of Virginia (luvsite.org) by the veteran who was sent to Vietnam so Bush could avoid combat.. BUSH IS A COWARD By Jack Balkwill "I rode a tank in the generals’ rank when the blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank" -Mick Jagger, "Sympathy for the Devil" Bush is a coward. I am the one who took his place in Vietnam, so I should know. Corporate media have convinced the masses of a fictitious warrior Bush, who is a hero. This has been effective, as a neighbor recently told me that If Gore had been elected, he wouldnt have had the guts to attack Iraq. My heart sank when I heard that, as I cannot fathom how it takes guts to order bombs to be dropped on children. Only cowards can do such things. Cowards who desert from war themselves while insisting that the working class bleed and die for the excesses of their national security state. I have marched for peace many times with friends who are war veterans, and others who are long veterans of the peace movement. I opposed all of the Bush wars– the invasion of Panama, Afghanistan, the various Iraqi Wars. I opposed Daddy Bushs arming Saddam and protecting him politically for so long. Daddy Bush was the pilot who bailed out on his crew, leaving them to crash and die in WW2. Cowardice runs deep in the Bush family. During the Vietnam War, when Bush deserted from the Texas National Guard, the National Security State found itself to be one short on cannon fodder, so they sent me. A member of the peasant class, I was expendable. Bush loved the war up to the point of actually risking his own investment class ass, to employ a favorite term of his father. He supported the war mind you– has always enjoyed killing, setting the all-time execution record for governors, though brother Jeb has competed well in Florida. I was at Fort Meade, Maryland for three months prior to being sent to Vietnam. My military bosses assured me they had friends in the Pentagon who could keep me from going to war. A lieutenant was dispatched to the Pentagon with a full-time job of wandering the halls in pursuit of this. The friends proved to be less powerful than believed, and I became an advisor to combat units for US Army Vietnam and Military Assistance Command, traveling all over the country to daily witness the hatred, greed and delusion of war, the lowest activity of my species. I was an ignorant kid who knew nothing about what was happening. Nothing in my life had prepared me for understanding. My working class father voted Republican, because Eisenhower was a Republican and like him, a World War Two vet. I didnt even know there was a peace movement, as I was sent before it surged, in 1966. The Stars and Stripes newspaper in Vietnam was so full of propaganda that by comparison the Wall Street Journal is objective on national security matters. I didnt know that the South Vietnam government was a corrupt cesspool hated by its people and forced down their throats by old fashioned imperialism. Most of us went in order to avoid prison (we also had the choice of suicide, taken by more than 60,000 vets of that war since). My heroes are those who oppose war, which is the only sane approach to it. Those who stand up to the warmongers have suffered greatly, often beaten and jailed, and sometimes murdered for that position. Martin Luther King, Jr. appeared to know where it would get him when he said I may not get there with you. He had called the United States the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today not long before the bullet tore into his flesh. But the cowardly Bush cant get enough of war. I have been under fire for days at a time, with such fear beyond fear that it really requires a new word. Those who order wars never see the bleeding or hear the screams. I have seen rivers of blood and have given thanks for the insane roar of battle when it hid the screams of my comrades, to keep me from going entirely mad. But Bush can order a war casually, just before his golf game. In a nightmare I faced Bush and said You cowardly son of a bitch, I took your place in Vietnam. I could see in his glazed, alcoholic eyes the denial which kept him from understanding. His handlers convinced him that if he put on a flight jacket and flew to an aircraft carrier, he must be a hero (even if it cost $800,000 as it underscored the hypocrisy of his fiscal conservative claim, habitually unnoticed by corporate media as the national debt soars). On 9/11, when the nation needed leadership, Bush hid at an Air Force Base. The most protected person on the planet went into hiding, not because he was in danger, but because he is a coward. I cannot imagine another president who would have hid like that. Even the spineless Nixon would have seen it is the job of a president to go to the White House and assure the masses that everything is under control. The Democrats seem unable to locate an issue with which to oppose Bush, most having voted for everything hes requested to date. May I suggest the truth? The single image Bush has promoted is flag-waving hero of the Republic. The evidence proves he is a coward. http://luvsite.org/opinion.html — "Naturally the common people don’t want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, It is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." Hermann Goering at the Nuremberg trials, 1946. = = = = STILL FEELING LIKE THE MAINSTREAM U.S. CORPORATE MEDIA IS GIVING A FULL HONEST PICTURE OF WHAT’S GOING ON? = = = = More information: and Iraq Watch on Znet: http://www.zmag.org/CrisesCurEvts/Iraq/IraqCrisis.htm http://www.iraqpeaceteam.org/ Daily Online 2 hour radio show reporting: www.DemocracyNow.org = = = = Sorry we cannot read/reply to most usenet posts but welcome email For more information: http://EconomicDemocracy.org/wtc/
