Iran and Current Administration.

Question:

___ __  Flames to /dev/null or another newsgroup.  If anyone has _   anything to add or correct (_sans_ flames), alt.activism     is the place for it. ___ __  There is indeed evidence for the "October Surprise" scenario. _   While there are people—even some on the left—who would     call it a wishful-thinking conspiracy theory, there are some     facts that require explanation.  Here are a few that I can     remember:         o Memos from the Reagan campaign make mention of taking           action to prevent an "October Surprise."  The October           Surprise would be, of course, Jimmy Carter getting the           hostages freed right before the election in 1980.         o A pilot has admitted to flying George Bush to such           a meeting.  He was taken to court, and it was ruled           that he was *not* lying.         o The White House produced a photograph of George Bush,           claiming that it proved George Bush was in America           (Washington, I think) the day of the deal.  However,           the photgraph was taken outdoors, and the weather it           depicted did not match the weather actually occurring           that day.         o Iran’s President has said there was such a deal. ___ __  Your best bet for finding information is probably the Christic _   Institute.  They weren’t the first to break the news about the     October Surprise (though they did break the news about the     Iran/Contra Scam well before the rest of the media did), but     it’s touched on their investigations and they have references     about it.     <_Jym_ ::/  o o  ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::/   |   :: :: ___/ /::: Disclaimer:  "I’m sorry . . . that’s :::  /|  /:: :::`—–’::::::::::::::::  Mr. Caffeine speaking!" ::::`—–’:::

Response:

I have read here on several occasions allegations that Bush, with his contacts in the CIA, delayed the release of the U.S. hostages in Iran for seventy days until after the election in which Reagan defeated Carter.  It was also stated that this was done in return for arms.

The truth about what Reagan and Bush have done is much worse than any of these conspracy stories that keep being repeated.  The opposition to Reaganism and Bushism is not ever going to be sucessful while the opposition keeps spreading stories such as the one above.         As I speak, the press spreads lies and rumors to push the country toward war.  What passes for an opposition is:         1. supporting Iraq and attempting to justify its attack and actions.         2. saying that going to war is wrong because muslim countries         mistreat women.  That is not to say the reasoning is wrong, but         it is not a core reason for not going to war.         3. spreading increadable stories about secret consperacies and         how Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait is really all Bushs (and the american         governments) fault.         Anti-war should not mean pro-Iraq.

I have read here on several occasions allegations that Bush, with his contacts in the CIA, delayed the release of the U.S. hostages in Iran for seventy days until after the election in which Reagan defeated Carter.  It was also stated that this was done in return for arms.   Is this true? If so where can I find references to this in newspapers, magazines ore some other media which could be used to substantiate these allegations.  Frankly these allegations frighten me, especially with Bush about to send many of my friends into combat.  If he was willing to stoop to such underhanded dealing back in 1980, how far is he willing to go now?     Please send replies to:                                   Peace,                                   Bill Maguire.
