I would imagine not; in the unlikely situation of the UK going to war, I think the US would evaluate the situation in terms of its own interests.
NO ONE CARES ABOUT BRITISH TREES OR YOU. DOWN WITH THE RAINFOREST AND ALL THE STUPID ANIMALS INSIDE. I HOPE ALL YOUR TREES DIE OF "POLLUTION."

Response:

"Traditional British trees, such as oak and beech, are at risk of extinction because rapid shifts in weather conditions will play havoc with their natural growing seasons. "In 60 years’ time, London’s parks will be unrecognisable as trees from the south of France replace our own varieties. It is very hard for them, as one minute we have a heatwave, then they are waterlogged." = = = = Nature feels force of climate change By Mark Prigg And Elizabeth Hopkirk, Evening Standard 1 September 2004 It has been a confusing summer to say the least. First we were caught out in our winter suits by an early hot spell. Then August was a washout and, just when we had packed away our summer gear, the forecasters tell us this month will be sunshine all the way. But, if we feel we have been climatically challenged, spare a thought for Mother Nature. Experts today warned that climate change is already affecting our trees, plants and insects – with dramatic effects. They predict that: # Traditional British trees, such as oak and beech, are at risk of extinction because rapid shifts in weather conditions will play havoc with their natural growing seasons. # Even more garden spiders than usual will be seen spinning their webs this autumn. # Strawberries and apples have benefited from the warm – if not dry – weather and farmers have predicted an extended growing season. # The wasps that have plagued Britain all summer will not be back next year. The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has warned that traditional British trees are under threat from erratic weather conditions. Chris Prior, head of horticultural sciences at the RHS, said: "I think we will see some dramatic changes in the future. "In 60 years’ time, London’s parks will be unrecognisable as trees from the south of France replace our own varieties. It is very hard for them, as one minute we have a heatwave, then they are waterlogged." He added: "In the South-East in particular, beech is really struggling, and I think we will need to switch to a variety from the south of France. Oak could also need a new variety. "We’ll also see a lot more new trees never before seen in Britain. "Already a variety of oak called Holm is starting to take over – it could mean the end for a lot of British species." Insect life is also being affected by the changing climate. While Britain has been plagued by a record number of wasps, hoverflies and mosquitoes over the past three months, next summer will be far better. This, according to the Natural History Museum, is because many wasps and bees were drowned in the August downpours. And any queens that emerged from their nests looking for sites to mate and hibernate may have been battered to death by the heavy rain. "I wouldn’t be surprised if fewer queens make it to hibernation, let alone make it through the winter," said Stuart Hine of the Natural History Museum. "If we have a cold, wet May when they start to emerge next year, it could kill off even more." The summer’s wasp plague was good news for garden spiders. As a result, October may see even more of the distinctive arachnids. And global warming is also influencing traditional fruit growing seasons. The National Farmers’ Union says the warm weather means a bumper crop of strawberries and apples well into the autumn. Apples are also ripening up to 10 days earlier than normal http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/articles/12901420?source=Evening%2… DON’T MOURN, ACT!

Question:

Major Temperature Rise recorded in Arctic this year: German scientists PARIS (AFP) – German scientists probing global warming said they had detected a major temperature rise this year in the Arctic Ocean and linked this to a progressive shrinking of the region’s sea ice. Temperatures recorded this year in the upper 500 metres (1,625 feet) of sea in the Fram Strait — the gap between Greenland and the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen — were up to 0.6 C (1.08 F) higher than in 2003, they said in a press release received here. The rise was detectable to a water depth of 2,000 metres (6,500 feet), "representing an exceptionally strong signal by ocean standards," it said. The experts, from the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, have been recording temperatures aboard a specialised vessel, Polarstern (Pole Star), for the past six weeks. The sampling has been taking place in the West Spitsbergen Current, which carries warm water from the Atlantic into the Arctic Ocean. The institute said water in the Fram Strait has been warming steadily since 1990 and over the past three years, satellite images had documented "a clear recession" of sea ice edges, both in the strait and the Barents Sea. The latest data "point towards a further warming tendency," the institute said. [Editor's note: the main news of this story is above; this dramatic huge change in just one year in temperature. Below the article gives recent but not quite as new information, from June, but also quite alarming-ED] In June, a UN organisation announced that American scientists had detected an "alarmingly rapid growth" this year in airborne concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2), the fossil-fuel pollutant blamed for global warming. CO2 levels recorded in March 2004 at Hawaii measured 379 parts per million (ppm), an increase of three ppm over the previous year. By comparison, there had been an annual increase of only 1.8 ppm over the past decade. Atmospheric concentrations of CO2 before the Industrial Revolution were 280 ppm. The June announcement was made at a conference on renewable energies in Bonn by Joke Waller-Hunter, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) — the United Nations (news – web sites)’ paramount environment accord. CO2 is the most important of the six "greenhouse" gases blamed for driving changes to the world’s delicate climate system. These gases hang like an invisible shroud in the atmosphere, trapping the Sun’s heat and inflicting what many scientists predict will be serious changes to icecaps, glaciers and weather patterns. In the Earth’s distant past, climate change has occurred naturally, by emissions of CO2 disgorged by volcanoes and other phenomena. But the overwhelming majority of climate experts say CO2 levels are rising fast today because of the unbridled burning of oil, gas and coal. Opinions differ, though, as to how fast the effects will occur and how bad they will be. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=15 40&ncid=1540&e=2&u=/afp/20040 828/sc_afp/climate_arctic DON’T MOURN, ACT!
Response:

Interesting. Did they bother to check Sun activity? Or strength of Magnetic field in that area? Cosmic Rays Linked To Global Warming. Right now the main (dipole) (Earth magnetic) field is getting weaker at a rate of about 7% per century. http://istp.gsfc.nasa.gov/earthmag/magnQ&A1.htm#q6 No one knows when the next field reversal will occur: in the past, they have occurred on the average about once in 700,000 years. The change, whenever it occurs, will be gradual and the field will not drop to zero in between–doing so would mean that the magnetic energy of the Earth was somehow converted or dissipated, and all processes we know for this tend to run on scales of thousands of year, if not more. Right now the main (dipole) field is getting weaker at a rate of about 7% per century, and if you draw a straight line through the points you find it reversing between 1000 and 2000 years from now. It might happen, although the trend may well change. The energy of the field, however, has hardly changed. What seems to have happened is that the more complicated parts of the field (equivalent to several magnets in different directions) have got stronger while the main two-pole ("dipole") field lost strength. The complex field is somewhat weaker (it drops off faster with distance from the source, which is the core of the Earth), but we should not expect the field to be ever greatly weakened. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2002/07/020731080631.htm Cosmic Rays Linked To Global Warming "Researchers studying global warming have often been confounded by the differences between observed increases in surface-level temperatures and unchanging low-atmosphere temperatures. " "In addition, recent satellite data have revealed a correlation between cosmic ray intensity and the fraction of the Earth covered by low clouds. Yu proposes that the amount and charge of cosmic ray-generated ions can contribute to the formation of dense clouds by stimulating the production rate of low-atmosphere particles that make the clouds more opaque. In addition, natural and man-made differences in atmospheric chemistry, like greenhouse gas concentrations, can also affect the cosmic rays’ influence on clouds, according to Yu. Such height-dependent atmospheric differences can increase the quantity of ambient particles in the lower troposphere and decrease the particles in the upper air, thus affecting the type of cloud cover. " http://dsc.discovery.com/news/briefs/20020812/cosmicray.html "Aug. 12

A new study strengthens evidence that the oceans and climate are linked in an intricate dance, and that rapid climate change may be related to how vigorously ocean currents transport heat from low to high latitudes. A new study, reported April 22 in the journal Nature, suggests that when the rate of the Atlantic Ocean’s north-south overturning circulation slowed dramatically following an iceberg outburst during the last deglaciation, the climate in the North Atlantic region became colder. This regional climatic extreme began suddenly and lasted for two thousand years. Another cold snap 12,700 years ago lasting more than a thousand years and accompanied another slowdown of overturning circulation.
Earth warned on ‘tipping points’ By Alex Kirby BBC News Online environment correspondent The world has barely begun to recognise the danger of setting off rapid and irreversible changes in some crucial natural systems, a scientist says. Professor John Schellnhuber says the most important environmental issues for humans are among the least understood. He told a briefing in Sweden that the Asian monsoon was one of the "tipping points" that could change very quickly. He said a better understanding of the risks was as important as the programme to prevent collisions with asteroids. Professor Schellnhuber is research director of the UK’s Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. High stakes He was speaking at the EuroScience Forum in Stockholm, at a briefing by the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme entitled Beyond Global Warming: Where On Earth Are We Going? * * * "If we can afford to gaze up at the sky looking for asteroids, we should be able to watch our own planet with as much care:-Professor John Schellnhuber * * * Professor Schellnhuber said 12 "hotspots" had been identified so far, areas which acted like massive regulators of the Earth’s environment. If these critical regions were subjected to stress, they could trigger large-scale, rapid changes across the entire planet. But not enough was known about them to be able to predict when the limits of tolerance were reached. "We have so far completely underestimated the importance of these locations," he said. "What we do know is that going beyond critical thresholds in these regions could have dramatic consequences for humans and other life forms." One example of a hotspot was the North Atlantic current, the ocean circulation pattern responsible for bringing warmer air to northern Europe, the collapse of which could lead to a very large regional climate shift. Faltering monsoon Others were the West Antarctic ice sheet, the Sahara desert, and the forests of the Amazon basin. Yet another hotspot, Professor Schellnhuber said, was the Asian monsoon system. He told BBC News Online: "Modelling has shown that if air pollution and land use change, this could alter the albedo, the reflectivity, of the land. "This in turn could weaken or even suppress the monsoon, and there is evidence that several times in the last few years it has in fact been weaker. "We’re investing too much in things like improving the accuracy of our weather forecasts, while the really vital elements in the Earth’s system are the unstable phenomena like the monsoon. "We should have a much better understanding of these tipping points, and we have to do everything we can to stop short of triggering these instabilities. Unforeseen speed "That means we have to know where they are, and they’ve been off the radar screen for far too long. "Scientists have begun to realise that change could be sudden, not gradual – in some cases it could happen within a few decades." Professor Schellnhuber urged a coordinated global effort to improve understanding and monitoring of Earth’s "Achilles’ heels". So are you trying to tell us that the Florida trooper shouldn’t question elderly black folks if they are conducting an investigation where they may have information? I guess Katherin Harris was indisposed.

Perhaps the law enforcement authorities suspected others?

So I take it that none of you could bother to have READ the article. The investigation that they are CLAIMING to have been involved in was CLOSED.

And that determination was by who? AND why are they using investigators, who are investigating election fraud, that have to wear guns?

Becase they are sworn peace officers required to carry sidearms as part of their duties? NO not all investigators wear guns and they did NOT have to remove their jackets to display their guns to the elderly woman and others. Since it has only been printed that blacks were being question

"Only printed", meaning you can’t confirm that… right?

So are you trying to tell us that the Florida trooper shouldn’t question elderly black folks if they are conducting an investigation where they may have information? The Florida Voters League reported the investigation has sent chilling messages to African-American voters to stay away from the polls in November.
I’m merely asking a question and offering my opinion. What part of that do you not get? You simply stating what you want everyone to believe is NADA.

I’m stating that I would like to see some objective facts and evidence, as opposed to another op-ed by a periodical with an anti-Bush agenda… The investigation was closed. There is no justification for the Police to be going ONLY to homes of blacks,

Do you have proof that they only went to the homes of blacks? displaying their guns to people, etc.

How did they "display their guns to people"? PERIOD. I don’t care if they came into the homes and said NOTHING.

I’m sure you wouldn’t care whatever the facts of the situation are – you’re obviously more interesting in buying into and propagating hysteria than dealing with any semblance of facts and logic. It is an act of intimidation

WHAT is an "act of intimidation"? Again, any credible sources that only blacks were investigated? if it is without cause and there was NO cause.

So what you’re trying to tell us is, that despite all the Left’s overblown hysteria of "voter fraud", law enforcement agencies should not investigate it?

   (a) State troopers, like all cops, are always* armed, no matter what official business they’re engaged in. (b) Florida state troopers are the "state police" and not just limited to issuing traffic tickets. If the FDLE needs cops to check-out something, they send the troopers. (c) Election fraud is serious business (as the Dems keep telling us) so it’s only appropriate to vigorously investigate alleged cheating. Some cheaters are going to be "black". I take it that you feel fraud is OK so long as the cheaters were planning to cheat on Kerrys behalf … ?

Saudi Prince Gives $127,000 in Gifts to Bush Family The Knight Ridder news agency is reporting that Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah gave $127,000 in jewelry and other presents to the Bush family and top presidential aides last year including a diamond and sapphire jewelry set to Laura Bush. According to Knight Ridder, no foreign leader gave the Bush family more gifts last year. Bush Oks $25 Billion More for Iraq & Afghanistan President Bush yesterday approved an additional $25 billion in emergency funds to pay for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Bush administration had previously said it would not need more money for the two wars until the new fiscal year begins October 1. Last month a Congressional report found the Bush administration had underestimated this year’s cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan operations by $12 billion. Bush: "[Our enemies] Never Stop Thinking About New Ways to Harm Our Country and Our People, and Neither Do We." Bush also held a public ceremony to sign a $417 billion military bill. One of Bush’s comments took many reporters by surprise. He said "This bill meets our commitment to America’s Armed Forces by preparing them to meet the threats of tomorrow. Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." That was President Bush yesterday at a public ceremony where he signed a $417 billion military bill.
