CONSERVATIVE BRITISH POLITICIANS TO BUSH: SIGN KYOTO
Question:
Agreed. But there is still a problem with keeping it safe from the wrong hands. Why not take the waste, even in the glass, place it in steele tube "arroes" with a few dozen tons of concrete on the top end and drop it over deep sea subduction zones? That would bury it too deep for mining it even if it could be found, and it would be out of nature’s way and would eventually make it’s way into earth’s mantle, likely long after it’s pertty much decayed. It’s cheap, ot’s practical, it’s easy, and it’s perminant. No need to guard it, no need to worry about it.
I predict a big market for spent uranium in the coming years, most of which will end up scattered across the Middle East. Oh, and a revival of the A-10 ‘Warthog.’ BB
Response:
Read today that even France and Germany are finding they cannot afford Kyoto. Costs too much…. would devastate their economies. Note that as proposed, China and most other 3 rd world countries would be exempt from its provisions. US should be building nuclear power plants for electricity (no CO2 or sulfure emmissions. The spent fuel is only a political problem, not a technical one. The French, who make 60 % of their power from nukes, simply mix the spent fuel with some sand to dilute it, heat it in an oven to melt the mixture into glass, and bury it. Glass not dissolve, is stable, and it will slowly half life decay away, safely buried.

We should also not be burning natural gas in turbines to generate electricty- it is too valuable for that. Nukes, and perhaps some clean burn coal. As to Alaska oil- I have been to the North Slope, it is empty, barren, and cold. I would rather drill there for oil than some place that is more scenic, or more biologically productive (the growing season is only 2 months long, at best- can’t support a lot of biota on that little of a growing season).
Yeah, but the drilling would only affect a tiny percent of the land anyway, even with a number of bad spills. The main reason I see for not drilling there is that the world will be a far better place when there is no longer any use for the middle east. Once their oil is gone, they can kill each other all they want and no one will have any reason to care. So let’s use up their’s first. :) William R. James

China is a Kyoto signatory nation that has ratified the convention. Hunter is a liar.
Response:
Sounds like the conservative MP is unaware of how our democracy works.
If the U.S. "democracy" worked, Bush wouldn’t have been allowed to steal the presidential election. By the way, Republicans and NeoCon’s are proud to remind the world that the U.S. is not a democracy. Democracy = Mob rule. America is all about corporate rule = Fascism.
Response:
The real lauphing stocks are those who believe in hoaxes, and those who think Kyoto has anything to do with anything other than transfering US wealth to third world dictators.
Yup, like the Hoax funded by the Carbon Lobby in their argument that unnecessarily burning more of their product is essential for the public welfare. Of course your average street corner crack dealer would tell you the same thing. Withdrawal discomfort must be avoided at all cost, and that requires the consumption of every increasing quantities of crack (Carbon fuels). The only good Republican is a dead Repubilcan.
Response:
US President George Bush should sign up to the Kyoto Protocol and start to make an impact in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, a senior Conservative MP said today.
Sounds like the conservative MP is unaware of how our democracy works. Bush can’t "sign" Kyoto, he has to send it to the Senate. The last time it was put to a non-binding vote, it got beat down 95-5. BD "I think [John Kerry]’s a sleazeball," Terry Polier was quoted as saying. "I did kind of wonder if my daughter didn’t get that kind of feeling herself… He’s not the sort of guy I would choose to be with my daughter."

What about the invasion of invisible space aliens? By Amanda Brown, Environment Correspondent, PA News US President George Bush should sign up to the Kyoto Protocol and start to make an impact in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, a senior Conservative MP said today. Perhaps the kook should first explain ho it would possibly reduce CO2, right after showing some evidence for the first time that global warming is actually occuring oir has anything to do with CO2 emmissions. The call for action came from shadow environment secretary Richard Ottaway at a party forum for industry specialists and green group representatives at the Commons. Mr Ottaway told PA News that he would like the US to ratify the deal agreed in 1997, which commits countries to legally binding cuts in carbon dioxide emissions ? the chief cause of global warming. What a crock! That’s two blatent lies. the Kyoto scam would only require that US companys buy the "right" to operate from tird world dictators. Mr Bush angered politicians and environmentalists worldwide when he announced shortly after taking office that America was abandoning Kyoto because he said it would harm the US economy. Actiually, the congress already abandoned it…. fortunately. Mr Ottaway said: "I think we would like him (George Bush) to sign up to the Kyoto agreement because, once the United States is signed up, then we have a large commercial trading bloc which is committed and that will start to make serious inroads into CO2 emissions. Buy the man an education. He needs it if he really believes what he’s peddling. "Without the United States, then we have the difficult situation of Europe acting unilaterally which is uncompetitive. Then don’t. "And it’s not just the United States ? we would like Russia to sign up as well." Ah, they want to enhance their own ability to compete by making the US companies fund dictators. It would make more sense for eorope to stop leeching off it’s people with socialist policies. He added it is "incumbent" on the Government to have "good credibility" with the US administration and actively encourage it to sign up to Kyoto. Nonsense. The Conservative forum is the first in a series which aims to see how compatible business can be with care for the environment. Nonsense. It has squat to do with the environment. "What we had this morning was both business and NGOs coming together and showing that the two can work together. "There are good examples around of how business is being innovative and finding ways of being careful about the environment and protecting it for the future. We need to promote those good examples." Non-science nonsense. William R. James
