Thnks for adv re Idaho 95/12 – why I'm worrying..

Question:

The first was the Ocotillo Pass going into California from Arizona. Horribly long tough grade, 116 degrees, STRONG headwinds, stranded overheated cars everywhere.

Can’t help you with Idaho. Been up that pass on I-8 many times though. Seen a lot of the disabled cars on the way up. Many of them are vehicles, loaded with passengers and windows rolled up, that flew past me earlier on. They usually pass me about where the signs say: "TURN OFF A/C". — Dale *****To reply, delete  &&  from displayed email address.*****

Thanks to all who wrote about the roads in Idaho.  I’ve driven some tough non interstate roads without any problems, just like to be aware if something is really not appropriate for a big trailer.      Each summer for the past 7 years, I’ve been travelling for a month with my four sons, a dog and the trailer to a different part of the US and this will be our "last of the lower 48" trip when we complete the stick on states map with the final states of Idaho and Washington.  (Since we’re planning on going to Vancouver Island, the boys are lobbying for adding on a Canadian provinces map to the side of the trailer).  My husband flies in and meets us for about a week on our month long odyssey; since he is self employed that is about all of the time away from the office that he can manage.  Also this year, my oldest son who is getting ready for college will be staying home!      I think that I am obsessing about the roads a little more this year since last year I was totally unprepared for two areas that I came on unawares.  The first was the Ocotillo Pass going into California from Arizona.  Horribly long tough grade, 116 degrees, STRONG headwinds, stranded overheated cars everywhere.  If I didn’t have a new strong 3/4 ton Suburban I wonder if my radiator hoses etc would have held up!        Then later on the same trip,  I blindly stumbled onto what I thought was a great route from Crater Lake over toward Salt Lake City.  Take my advice, Hwy 140 is not the way to go.  Whoever called Hwy 50 the loneliest road has never been on 140 in Oregon and Nevada!        Grace Simcoe
