AOPA Elections

Question:

It’s not just the fax votes that may not be secret. What happened to the second envelope for postal votes? Stuart G Hilsberg AOPA 27815

Second envelope was I recall ”deleted” under the Smith administration and the only reason offered was ”cost”. Where is the warning that faxes sent to the AOPA office may go elsewhere ? How many members voting by mail will fill in the name and address bit at the bottom of the slip when that is required for fax only…? I believe that the returning officer will have some serious thinking to do, especially if he receives ballot papers via a third person and it does not contain a full list of candidates…. cheers Doug

Hi folks – Thank goodness you didn’t get support for your aus.aviation.aopa newsgroup, Greg M, because it would have concentrated all the childish flaming that’s gone on too long, into one place, _with AOPA’s name on it_. Come on, fellas.  Think what a weapon a file like that, containing only your outpourings like last week’s, would be for anyone who wanted to discredit ANY lobbying AOPA undertook in the future (whatever the committee membership might be at that time).  Think, and then put the flames out, eh? I sent an email to Arthur Pape myself complaining about having only 6 names in the how-to-vote broadcast.  (He answered.  I wasn’t persuaded, Arthur, but thanks for the reply). The real question is whether the election can be valid if faxes are accepted other than in the original voting-slip format (all names) and if voting isn’t secret, because both of those were the conditions members were led to expect. Maybe the Committee could decide quickly to accept the kind offer I’m sure Boyd is about to make: to fund another broadcast fax and email, listing all the names and saying "Your vote will be invalid unless you post it on a voting slip (or copy).  Sorry – faxed attempts to vote will be ignored". Cheers         Brian (AOPA 43219). //"..reorganizing: …wonderful…creating the illusion of progress.." | Assoc Prof in Computer Sci & Eng                Vox   +61 6 201 2418 | | University of Canberra                          Fax   +61 6 201 5231 | | POB 1 Belconnen ACT 2616 Australia              *-iii-=0             | "…while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralization…"///
