TIBETAN HUNGER STRIKE
Question:
- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – The Indian Government supported the Tibetans for some time even voicing it in international forums during Nehru’s rule. China ended up attacking India though this was not the only reason, but it helped bring things to a boil. At the same time USA or the other Western countries hardly opened their mouths in protest nor took any action against China. Infact those were the days when they were kissing China to develop better relations. This feeling sorry for Tibetans by the USA is a recent phenomenon, so don’t start pointing fingers at others.
This is not true. America covertly supported Tibetan rebels for awhile, until it became clear that it was futile. A lot of them were trained near Mustang, in Nepal. Ken McKinney

Too right. I don’t see that the West’s behaviour is at all controversial; I don’t remember screams of horror from the self proclaimed "human rights lobby" everytime we entered into negotiations with the Soviets; in fact the complete opposite! Morever, what’s this about Nehru criticising the Chinese? Until the Chinese repaid his misjudged trust by invading northern India, it was all "India and China friends", working against all those evil imperialists!

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – The rumor is that the Indian authorities have done some very brutal things to the strikers and there have been deaths. Does anyone have a update? Thanks, Diana Why would the Indian authorities take retribution against Tibetans? I don’t understand. Aren’t the Tibetans striking against the Chinese? The Indian and Chinese governments don’t exactly get along. Can someone explain? Ken McKinney The Commander in Chief of the Chinese forces is visiting Delhi, the Indians didnt want the Tibetans upseting the Indo-Chinese applecart, so they tried to ‘help’ the hungerstrikers by attempting to forcibly take them to hospital for a glucose drip. 6 hunger strikers, 200 Indian police/paramilitary. One tibetan protester ( not one of the hunger strikers), Thupten Ngodup, covered himself in petrol and set it alight. He was taken to hospital, but will almost certainly die within a couple of days. The hunger strikers who were removed have been replaced by others.
