Supreme Court neanderthals!
Question:
It went something like this: Scalia: (shouting) "Boy! Get in here!" Thomas: (to Scalia) "Yezza Mizza Scalia?" Scalia: (to Thomas) "Boy, join me in this dissent." Thomas: (to Scalia) "Yezza Mizza Scalia, right away suh." Scalia: (to himself) "And remind me to send George a letter to thank him again for his helpful gift." Point: After the first fifty times, it starts to get suspicious when Clarence Thomas decides the same way as Antonin Scalia. Why not just say that Scalia gets two votes and get rid of Thomas. Could be a new republican cost cutting measure. K.

Why no mention of Thomas’ "Long Dong", or the hours he spends "Romancing the Bone"? Mitchell Holman "I should have remembered that was Andrew Jackson who said that, since he got his nickname `Stonewall’ by vetoing bills passed by Congress." — Vice President Dan Quayle, confusing Andrew Jackson with Confederate General Thomas J. `Stonewall’ Jackson, who actually got his nickname at the first Battle of Bull Run.

As for "abhored by the majority of the population"—- you believe we should both legislate morality, and enshrine the tyranny of the majority in the Constitution— completely subverting its intent to protect minorities from the majority? Careful there Rod. Questioning Justice "Uncle" Thomas will get you branded a racist by the right-wingers on here. Since gays and lesbians chose their lifestyle and are not born "queer", then race does not play into the equation. Why should sexual behavior be protected. Should the same protection also be given to rapist, etc.. Sexual behavior is based on inherent desires. Straight people are straight because they’re attracted to people of the opposite sex, gay people are gay because they’re attracted to persons of the same sex. Claiming that it’s okay for heterosexuals to act on their consensual erotic desire but not okay for gay people to do the same is ludicrous. Attraction is not chosen, it is inate and biologically determined.
You think so? I do not know. How do you know? Tell me though, I would assume that there is some fault or confusion in the genetic structure of a bisexual, don’t you think? Here we go again. Clarence Thomas is an ignorant, ass kissing Tom. He consistantly votes with the two biggest reactionary dickheads on the court. Isn’t it great that Clarence Thomas can give us a wonderful example of sucsess? All the insults from people like Jim and all of the attacks can’t change the fact that he’s on the court FOR LIFE!
What example? He used affirmative action to get where he is and is now working as hard as he can to see that no one else gets the same opportunity. He just voted today to deny civil rights to an American citizen based on who they have sex with. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – In his dissenting opinion, Scalia seemed at times torn between belittling the ruling — he called it "terminal silliness" at one point and declared that "the court has mistaken a Kulturkampf," German for "culture war," "for a fit of spite" — and describing it as a mistake of profound significance. He described homosexuals as a group with "high disposable income" and "disproportionate political power" with "enormous influence in American media and politics." Another profound dissenting decision. And now back into your caves. I find it amusing that Scalia would dare get so uppity in this case. He, above all the justices, is known for being biased by ultra-conservatives and not writing very credible opinions. It surprised me that he’s quite so rabid. It’s very clear why the six majority justices voted as they did: It was the only way they could keep from setting a VERY dangerous precedent. If Colorado is allowed to prevent gay and lesbian people from seeking legal redress, what’s to keep states like Idaho from doing the same thing to Jews or blacks? If America is to remain the land of the free, it is imperitive that everyone have equal rights whether you agree with their position or not. If group A is allowed to undermine the rights of groups B, then there’s nothing to keep group C from doing the same to B. This is America. If you can’t stand the freedom, get out of the country.

From The New York Times, May 21, 1996: In a significant victory for gay rights, the Supreme Court on Monday struck down a provision of the Colorado constitution that not only nullified existing civil rights protections for homosexuals in the state but also barred the passage of new anti-discrimination laws. Justice Antonin Scalia filed an equally forceful dissent, accusing the majority of taking sides in "the culture wars" through "an act not of judicial judgment but of political will." Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Justice Clarence Thomas joined Scalia’s dissenting opinion on Monday, accusing the majority of "inventing a novel and extravagant constitutional doctrine to take the victory away from traditional forces." Justice Scalia said the Colorado amendment was an "eminently reasonable" means of preventing the "piecemeal deterioration of the sexual morality favored by a majority of Coloradans." In his dissenting opinion, Scalia seemed at times torn between belittling the ruling — he called it "terminal silliness" at one point and declared that "the court has mistaken a Kulturkampf," German for "culture war," "for a fit of spite" — and describing it as a mistake of profound significance. He described homosexuals as a group with "high disposable income" and "disproportionate political power" with "enormous influence in American media and politics."
