JCAHO/Oprah – PASS IT ON
Question:
Wow…..I’m really confused on this…..as far as I know the only thing that is sliced away in circumsion is the foreskin…..no length is ever removed from the penis. Have I missed something along the way. Being of the Jewish faith I have attended many ritual circumcisions over the years…..what in God’s name are others doing out there? Marlynn – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – The "big deal" is complicated by the fact that "not all circumcisions are alike." You say: "slice away, parents. You’re doing your kid a favor." You DON’T say HOW MUCH to slice away. Is an inch enough? Are 6 inches too many? Can you understand why different men react different to circumcision because THEIR CIRCUMCISIONS WERE DIFFERENT? Others may not have been as fortunate as you. You’ve offered parents no guidance whatsoever on this point. For what it’s worth, I don’t regret for a second my parents decision to "snip" me. Not once have I wished to have my foreskin back. What’s the big deal? (Yes I have read the article below, and no I still am not convinced.) Slice away, parents. You’re doing your kid a favor. Not only will his sexual partners appreciate it more, but you’ll save him lots of trouble with infections. Wait… what’s that sound? Is that a flame storm I hear coming? Oprah Winfrey http://www.oprah.com/email-oprah.html Dear Oprah, Please do a show on American medicine’s grisly $200 million dollar per year most frequent surgical behavior toward males… The American Academy of Pediatrics recently perpetuated its OBVIOUSLY ILLEGAL "potential medical benefits" scam… (See the URL below in the post to Catherine Young, editor of Compleat Mother. I am using that letter – and this one – to encourage others to contact you – and JCAHO – on this matter.) Remember, Oprah, ending the screams not only INSTANTLY diverts $200 million dollars per year to true health care – it also PRESERVES the mutilation as a CHOICE American males can make for themselves in adulthood. Todd D. Gastaldo, D.C. 8948 SW Barbur Blvd. #6 Portland, OR 92719 FAX (815) 366-2814 TEL (503) 640-0456 Oprah, here, now, is the post to Ms. Young in which I encourage others to contact you… Catherine Young Editor COMPLEAT MOTHER http://www.compleatmother.com/ Dear Catherine, Thanks for correcting that bogus pass-it-on post about how Oprah-kicked-a-racist-anti-Semite-off-her-show… Although untrue, it reminded me of a suggestion recently – possibly also untrue – that Oprah Winfrey won’t do a show on American medicine’s OBVIOUSLY ILLEGAL grisly mass male infant genital mutilation for profit scheme… http://x16.dejanews.com/[ST_rn=ps]/getdoc.xp?AN=450088154&CONTEXT=920571479. 1106903124&hitnum=6 Ostensibly, Oprah won’t do a show critical of routine infant circumcision because the national media fears a "Jewish backlash." (See forwarded Anti-Circ-list post below.) BTW, like the AgainstCirc-lister quoted below, I too wonder just exactly what a "Jewish backlash" is… My experience has been that American Jews are *quite* open-minded about ending ritual infant circumcision. MOMENT editor Hershel Shanks, PhD – MOMENT is a national magazine of Jewish culture – notes that ancient rabbis OFTEN changed fundamental Jewish rules. MOMENT Editor Shanks published in Feb. 1998 my letter on circumcision in which I quoted Jewish sources which indicate that God originally/allegedly commanded that Jews should leave most of the foreskin on the penis. Here are some noteworthy quotes regarding Jewish circumcision… "[C]onstitutional rights…including freedom of religion, are inadequate to prevent the states from using their authority to treat circumcision as child abuse…The most obvious way to proceed with enforcement…is through criminal prosecution under existing state laws." [Brigman WE: Circumcision as child abuse: the legal and Constitutional issues. Journal of Family Law, 1984;23(3):337-57]
