Help requested for UN job

Question:

The following letter is from a friend who requested me to post this. If you can help you can contact her or I’ll make sure she gets any messages directed to her. Thanks.    Monica Castelo    217 Felix Street #1    Santa Cruz, CA 95060 USA    (408) 459-8352 / (310) 394-2815    FAX: (408) 457-8354    July 5, 1995 To Whom It May Concern: On Friday, June 30th, the United Nations Center for Human Rights in Geneva faxed me a letter offering me a three-month full-time internship working with the annual Subcommission for Human Rights on the Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities.  The internship is to begin this July 25, 1995.   The internship will involve participation in a cross-cultural support team of eight people selected worldwide.  It is a great honor to have been selected.   Because the UN internship program has a highly competetive pool of applicants each year, this is an opportunity that may present itself only once in a lifetime.  I see this not only as an opportunity to nurture an international career in defending human rights, but as a chance to serve wholeheartedly as an international civil servant in a historical, critical and unique event.  This year is the 50th anniversary of the United Nations and the second year of the UN International Decade for the World’s Indigenous Peoples.  It is an especially vital time to be serving in the United Nations.   This full-time internship is unpaid.  The visa, travel and basic living costs for three months must be borne by the intern or a sponsoring agency.  With the conference only three weeks away, I am desperately trying to find funding sources to pay for my internship so that I can accept this offer.  The total amount necessary to go is approximately $5,000.  My appeal is not only for donations, but for any information on funding sources for a UN internship of this nature.   I would be happy to publish a report at the end of my internship and publically acknowledge any sponsors.  Donations can be made tax-deductible through the Global Exchange in San Francisco or El Andar Foundation in Santa Cruz. Please contact me immediately if you have any information leading to funding.   My CV and offer letter from the United Nations are available for your reference. I would be happy to provide you with any additional information. Thank you so much for your support.   Sincerely yours in serving world peace, Monica Castelo —

Monica, are you serious? You want to make an international career and expect others to pay for your entrance into UN diplomacy? Either you are stupid or you have taken up a very nasty strategy for your personal aims. — Frueher war alles viel frueher
