The actual counter to the charge that atheism leads to despotism is that a proponent of this fatuous argument couldn’t possibly justify it on historical grounds. Of course not–there’s insufficient data. There have been few avowedly atheistic regimes in history. The only ready examples are the communist governments of Eastern Europe.
