Boycott Cincinnati

Question:

* I am posting this on behalf of Boycott Cincinnati.  It does     * * not reflect  the  views  of  the  University   of   Cincinnati. * *                                                                 * * Please re-post and distribute  widely,  wherever  appropriate   * Gay  Lesbian  March Activists/ACT-Up announces a national boycott of Cincinnati’s tourist industries in response to the local  pas- sage of of Issue 3. Cincinnati Covention and Visitor’s Bureau, Hospitality  Industry, and Art Centers are targeted for Boycott and Direct Action. Gay Lesbian March Acitivists/ACT-UP establishes a  national  boy- cott office in Washington, D.C. Cincinnati’s tourist industries are now the focus of  a  national boycott  call  by  GLMA/ACT-UP, a Cincinnati activist group whose past protests during the Mapplethorpe and  O’Banion  prosecutions helped  to  focus national attention on Cincinnati’s extreme con- servatism, intolerance, and human rights violations.  GLMA/ACT-UP is  launching  the boycott in response to the passage of Issue 3. Issue 3 repealed the section of of Cincinnati’s Human Rights  Or- dinace  that  prohibited  discrimination  on  the basis of sexual orientation in employment, housing and public accomodations.  Is- sue 3’s passage will also prohibit the City from enacting similar protections in the future. Opponents of Issue 3’s passage prepare  to  fight  the  issue  in court.   City  and civic leaders rush to reassure a nervous local business community that Cincinnati  will  not  suffer  a  boycott similar  to the one currently targeting Denver and Colorado State since an anti- gay measure passed there last  year.  The  boycott has  had  far-reaching effects and has been a national embarrass- ment to that area. Cincinnati voters have spoken, and again they have left our  city open to embarrassment and ridicule. The city recently promoted as the nation’s #1 city has again proven itself to be  the  #1  city for  biggots. The passage of Issue 3 demonstrates the city’s con- tinued disregard for the human rights and well-being of  its  ci- tizens. GLMA/ACT-UP is fighting back. A National Boycott (Boycott Cincin- nati)  is  being launched targeting the Cincinnati tourist indus- try. Specific targets for the boycott are the Cincinnati  Conven- tion  Center,  the  hospitality industry, and the Art Centers. To facilitate organizing, a national "Boycott Cincinati" office  has been established in Washington, D.C. GLMA/ACT-UP declares the picket lines of protest around Cincinna- ti  tourist industry. We encourage all business and organizations committed to human rights to participate in this boycott. Tell Cincinnati that  human  rights  for  all  is  your  concern. Respect our picket lines and spend your business and leisure dol- lars elsewhere.  Boycott Cincinnati!  For more information: write to Boycott Cincinnati, c/o GLMA/ACT-UP, P.O. Box 19530, Cincinna- ti, Ohio 45219.
