I believe that reality is subjective too.

If reality isn’t subjective, it is certainly very hard to draw the line. This is one of the strengths of science. You don’t have to worry about subjectivity vs. objectivity (well, really you do some) but the main point is measuring, developing explanations for your measurements, and then testing those explanations against different measurements. You shortcut the question of "but are the explanations true" by asking instead "how useful are these explanations at predicting behavior."

Hey! Camels I believe in, but the jury is still out on strings (10, 11 or 21 dimensional)!

Of course He has a sense of humor. Have you ever seen a duck-billed platypus?

Nope. You was taught wrong. One of the best contermporary descriptions of the Holy Spirit, believe it or not, is found in the Star Wars movies where they try to describe "the Force," although that doesn’t quite capture the very elusive nature of the Holy Spirit. For the most part I don’t try to understand the doctrine of the Trinity since in the end I think it is trying to express something that can’t be expressed. But, I do accept it as an attempt to place experiential observation (the many ways God is experienced) in the context of revealed truth. Personally, it does work for me to identify the ways I experience or observe God’s presence in the world as fitting into two distinct categories: God incarnate and something else. There also is a sense in which God the Creator is also present but that’s much more an intellectual presence than an experienced presence. (I am curious, though, what tradition taught that. Because what I am familiar with speaks of the church, the community as the "Body of Christ," not the Holy Spirit. I don’t especially like the way that is often presented, but that’s another topic.) In one of my more inspired moments, bedtime prayers with my daughter some years ago, I realized in our discussion that God knew everything about men _and_ women, as their Creator. God the Creator is a Father, but He also understands Mothers from the inside out, so "male" doesn’t describe all He is. — Tsam

Not exactly. The story of Pentecost in Acts describes the Holy Spirit as a presence that came to the Christ’s followers some time after His ascension and made it possible for them to effectively preach Christ’s message. > > "Rib of man" is a really silly way of putting it. That would imply that God has a penis. What does he use it for?

Well, since there are three persons in one God, I believe that God the Father has a male attribute, God the Son is obvious, and God the Holy Spirit has a decidedly nurturing and female attribute. "Rib of man" is a really silly way of putting it. I think God took out Adam’s rib and *completed* him. -Tony — "If the grass appears to be greener on the other side of the fence, it’s time to fertilize your lawn!" Want to jump start your marriage? I’m not sure what God’s punishment is for people who bite his penis, but I imagine it’s not good.

Huh. That’s an interesting interpretation of the Holy Spirit. I was always taught the Holy Spirit was the community, i.e., the church. > "Rib of man" is a really silly way of putting it. I think God took out > Adam’s rib and *completed* him.
Huh? That makes no sense. God takes out a part of Adam, then gives it back to Adam to complete him? Doesn’t that seem like a kinda convoluted interpretation? I always figured when they said God created Man in His image, they were using the word "Man" to stand for all humankind, male and female included. The interesting thing to do is apply modern-day science to the rib thing. Consider that to get a female you need two X chromosomes; to get a male you need an X plus a Y. IOW, no matter what gender you want to produce, you start with an X. So maybe Adam had two XX chromosomes, and God took a "rib" out of one of those X’s to create the first XY?

Your theology isn’t accurate. How do you get devine out of human? And how can God pour his Spirit on the Church if it IS the Church. >> "Rib of man" is a really silly way of putting it. You asked me what I thought, didn’t you? God takes out a part of Adam, fashions what he is missing and give it back to him. Seems pretty straightforward to me. But it doesn’t if this is some sort of feminist troll. It isn’t is it? > I always figured when they said God created Man in His image, they > were using the word "Man" to stand for all humankind, male and female > included.
They are. And by "in His image" they mean having an immortal component (a soul) like God. > The interesting thing to do is apply modern-day science to the rib > thing. If you want to apply science to the Bible, feel free.
