most important book for a solitary wicca member to read
Question:
Is there one book that would cover all important herbs and their useses? Is there one book that would include all important rituals? Am I doomed to read the good, bad, and ugly?

Greeting’s John and Wendy. I too am a solitary practitioner, actually I am just getting back into my "realm" after many years of "hiding" shall we say. To cut it short I found this book most helpful it is called : Wicca, a guide for the solitary practitioner. The printer’s are Llewellyn, and the author is Scott Cunningham. I hope this aids you in your search. See you in the Funnies…TTFN…The Solitary Practitioner.

Merry meet! Well, I *would* suggest that you read more than one book–and more than one author! When I was in school I was taught that multiple points of view are a good thing, and I’m inclined to agree. We were taught to use three to five sources, so I would recommend: (1) WICCA by Scott Cunningham (2) LIVING WICCA also by Cunningham (3) A WITCH ALONE by Marion Green (4) WITCHCRAFT FOR TOMORROW by Doreen Valiente (5) BUCKLAND’S COMPLETE BOOK OF WITCHCRAFT by Raymond Buckland That should give you a broad enough view of the Craft to help you decide how you want to practice it. LIVING WICCA is especially good for customizing your own personal, optimal Wiccan path. If you’re interested in Feminist Wicce, you might also want to check out Z. Sorry, there ain’t no Bible for Wicca. You write your own–that’s what the Book of Shadows is. I’ve seen some books that *claim* to have all of this info, but have found them to be incomplete. If you want to learn about herbs, read some good herbals–actually this is one area where having someone teach you is a very good idea. (I know a little, will be looking for someone to teach me more when I have time.) One reason I advise against the Wicca 101 books in this area is that if you intend to start using herbs for healing, it does behoove you to learn all you can *before* you drink any homemade teas. If you’re solitary, write your own rituals if you haven’t found any that suit your needs. There’s no one book. Look through what’s out there and select what works for you. Skim through before you buy, if you buy. Check the library; my local branch has few books on Wicca, but plenty on mythology.
