You’re welcome, Roxy! :) You can actually make your own naan. It’s a right pain in the bum, but I have done it before. Here’s a recipe I used (courtesy of Madhur Jaffrey’s "World of the East Vegetarian Cooking"): *(not sure of the points value for this recipe, but if you use low fat yogurt and don’t use the butter, all the better!) 3 3/4 cups unbleached, all-purpose white flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1 3/4 plain yogurt Soft unsalted butter (optional) Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl. Slowly add as much yogurt as you need to gather the flour together to make a soft, resilient dough. Knead for about 10 minutes and form a ball. Put the ball in a bowl and cover with a damp towel. Set aside in a warm place for 1 1/2-2 hours. Knead the dough again and divide into 9 equal parts. Keep them covered. Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over a lowish flame. Preheat the broiler. Take one of the parts of dough and make a ball out of it. Flatten then roll it out on a lightly floured surface until you have a round that is about 1/8 inch thick. When the skillet is very hot, pick up the naan and slap it onto the heated surface. Let it cook slowly for 4-5 minutes. It will either puff up completely or partially. Now put the whole skillet under the broiler for 1-1 1/2 minutes or until the puffing up process completes itself and there are a few reddish spots on the naan. Remove the naan with a spatula and brush with butter if you like. Make all the naans this way, keeping them stacked and covered with a clean tea towel. Serve hot. If you want to have the naans later, wrap them in a plastic bag when they have cooled. Before you eat, wrap as many as you need in tin foil and heat in a 400 F oven for 15 minutes. Cheers, Petal

WW UK have recently introduced a "Spice Up Your Life" Cookbook – which is full of Indian recipes – and is TOTALLY fab!  I love it – finally I can eat curry again.  I couldn’t trust the restaurant stuff – this I can – and it tastes great.  I’m so impressed with what I’ve used it for so far, that I’ve invited my parents over for a curry night soon!  So, it might be worth seeing if you can get a copy – even with the points in UK, you should be able to work it out. And microwave poppadoms are one of my dietary staples! *grin* — krys UK 157/119.5/126 Started March 1st 2001 GOAL August 16th 2001 "you got to have a dream, if you don’t have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true?" http://community.webshots.com/user/krystrot http://www.geocities.com/welcomenotice/index.html

Oops, and forgot to mention one thing. If you’re not sure what to do with your points on Indian food days, just make sure you go easy on the points during the rest of the day as you mentioned, and maybe try to get in some extra exercise.  Also, most Indian dishes tend to go for around 7-13 points (7 being something like a non-creamy dish like Balti or Jalfrezi and 13 being something like butter chicken or Korma that contains cream). If it’s a buffet, don’t overload your plate, avoid the deep fried stuff, go easy on the rice (it’s sometimes actually fried in oil) and breads, don’t go up to the buffet table more than once, and count it as 9 points to be safe. All the better if this buffet has non-Indian foods like a salad bar as you can load up on fresh veggies. Hope that helps! Petal

I was so happy when I found out you could microwave them – it’s one of my snack staples now, with a little bit of mango chutney. Mmmmmm — Jo UK: 184/165.5/161 MDC: 16/13.5/2.5 (151)

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Ooh yep, have been enjoying microwaved pappadums for ages. :) They’re really lovely and in fact, I’m eating one right now with a chick pea curry! Spooky. The ones we have here are from Patak’s, and I know they have them in Canada – not sure about the US, though. Cheers, Petal okay, for all you folks who like indian bread things but had to give them up because they’re just dripping with butter and are 90 points apiece… i found a brand of puppdoms (spicy, puffy crackers) that are made pre-cooked:  that is, the bread is made but NOT YET FRIED.  there’s a suggestion on the box that you can nuke them after brushing on a touch of corn oil.  i spritzed them with a bit of butter flavor pam, and they were great, and four or five to a point! now i realize that i have to re-post when i get home and get the brand and label info :( —a the s

Hiya Roxy, You can buy naan bread here in the bread section of any grocery store, and I’m pretty sure you could buy it in Canada as well when I was still living there. It’s not terribly point friendly, though. :( Actually, most Indian food is pretty point heavy unless you make it yourself. Your best bet is sticking with tandoori chicken/shrimp and soup like daal. It’s such a shame because I absolutely LOVE Indian food! What I do when I get a naan craving with my homemade curries is I have it with nice warm pita bread. I use that to scoop up my curry and serve it on brown basmati rice. Yum. :) Cheers, Petal
