Robert, I have long been familiar with the American Nurses Association and have preferred not to have any affililation with them. Their agenda is clearly very feminist and it would not surprise me if they were affiliated with organizations as NOW. I have read their publications and was turned off by the high level of activism and strong rhetoric against doctors and the medical establishement. They want nurses empowered and believe they should be the driving force behind the medical establishement. Frankly, i am just content to put in a days work and go home and not be bothered by such nonsense. Men are welcome into the organization , but i doubt there are a whole lot of male members. The other thing is that the ANA is very active in union organizing activities and having worked in both union and non union environments over my career, i prefer non-union. Even if your pay and benefits are not perfect, i would find it very hard to walk out on sick patients. In answer to your question about nurses wanting a female member at Augusta National, i can only say that most nurses in my experience tend to be on the liberal side, so it would not surprise me if many of them would be in favor of a female member. It will be interesting to see how the whole situation develops. I heard Jessie Jackson is planning protests at the Masters. I saw Al Sharpton on TV the other day talking about this. I think it would be funny if Hootie held a big news conference during Masters week and announced that ANGC had added a few women members "months ago." When they ask him why he didn’t announce it then he should just say, "Cause it was noneya damn business!"

Eric isn’t the only RN on RSG. I could care less when or if Augusta decides to have a female member. I get a little hot when someone refers to nursing as a female only profession. I only work so I can have a flexible schedule to play 3 or 4 times a week. I’d play more and work less, but greens fees cost money, and I have to do something productive. Of course the horse doesn’t help either. :) Sarah ICU nurse with good drugs and a bag full of Titleists.

It sure is! If you were to choose which of the three statements below illustrat the most powerful person would it be one two or three? 1. I know I am a powerful person. 2. I know I am powerful enough to apreciate how powerful I am not. 3. My knowledge of my power is such that I feel no need to verbaly assert my power and in fact I seldom think of it . The three grades of power listed above coinside with three grades of intelectual power, that being what personal power is!

Which was fine considering that they were not allowed to exercise power (with the exception of Queens who inhereted power). But the Queens had male political advisors, and if the Queen would have started talking nonsense about ridding the world of hierarchy and status, she would have been gotten rid of, one way or another. Allow me to illustrate my point by relating plot elements of an Icelandic Saga. Once there was a married man who had been sentenced to banishment by The Althane. The man decided to not comply with his banishment and went to be with his wife in his home. His neighbors formed a posse to put him to death and attacked him while he was in his home. While fending off the posse from the doorway of his home his bow string broke. When he asked his wife to donate some of her long hair to be twisted into a replacement bow string she refused by asking him if he remembered the time he had slapped her. The response of the husband to his wife’s refusal was his choice to die fighting with a broken bow string rather than take hair from the head of his wife against her will. It is interesting that many of the laws condemned as oppressing women were actually enacted by White Males for the protection of women.

"Look behind the letters"? I was about to write you a damn fine Essay but I deleted it. You are correct in stating that the letters should be looked behind. This is why more than thirty-five years ago I chose a literal translation of Homer’s Odyssey (and Iliad) rather than the popularized translations. However…your reference to the ruse used by the wife of Odysseus to establish his identity is in front of the letters. So what is behind the letters? A great variety of symbols would have served the purpose of illustrating the ruse concept. Not all of these symbols would serve another purpose served by a bed post that was an olive tree trunk rooted to the ground. So what was the other purpose you ask? Well this is obvious is it not? The other purpose was the same purpose that was served by the Epic Poets decision to have the hound of Odysseus die after viewing the return home of Odysseus! GET IT! Question number one for Thomas Mohr: In this Epic Homer chooses to use the symbol of a bedpost that was a rooted olive trunk and the symbol of the death of a loyal dog for the very same important reason. Irony, I have no idea what a "Server Response 441 Line 4 too long" error is. I never type excessively long answers as I have a life and other things to do with my time. It seems you are accusing me of "disingenuousness" because something went screwy with your server. This is a problem between you, your server, and your computer. I got on the bus in 1960 and it has been a great ride. Yeah, I’ve had 13 months in psych wards but probably would have anyway. I’ve seen a lot and done more than most folks in a couple of lifetimes. What’s more my kids and their friends think I’m a preety cool dude. As for parents, I remember my conservative school teacher mother asking me if I smoked grass. I said yes and she replied. Anybody see The 60s movie the last few days? What did you think of it? I thought it was pretty good; although it didn’t cover everything, I learned a few things and thought the events were strung together pretty well. Even though the music was out of sequence. (The worst offender was the Graham Nash song — which is a 1971 song!) I’ve seen messages in other NGs which really offer no praise whatsoever to the movie, but I didn’t think it was that bad. I suppose most people on the Internet can and will vehemently voice opposing opinions (sorry, no alliteration intended.) Also, did anyone see Becker last night? How was it? (It’s one of my favorites, but I watched the 60s instead.) bw 8-{)

I didn’t watch "The 60’s" because I didn’t want to see a very important influential part of my life trivialized. I hope that maybe the show was more than I gave it credit for. Even though I work for an NBC affiliate, I’ve got to admit that you didn’t miss much other than some great music (some of which I haven’t heard in years). The events of the sixties were skimmed over so quickly that nothing had any real significance. A mini-series that should have run at least ten to twelve hours but was done in four would leave anyone who DIDN’T live the sixties feeling that it was all trivial and insignificant. I didn’t see the show (don’t see many shows), but given that I was born in ‘61, my recollections of the 60’s are more of the ‘Wonder Years’ variety. I do think however that it’s important to open our eyes to where we’ve been –especially through the perspective of others– so that we are always questioning our beliefs. Who we are is made up of our beliefs based on our experience and analysis of same — ALL of our beliefs can’t be ‘right’ . . . we could be doing better for ourselves if we recognize that and change the ones that don’t work. Well, gosh, the three men who are Consolidated would probably be quite flattered to be called women, since they are constantly whining about being white american males. Anyway, the song you are referring to is entitled "You Suck", guest stars the Yeastie Girls and is on their latest full lengther, _Play More Music_. Consolidated is not, as I mentioned, a girl band at all, but is three guys: Mark Pistel (who has done work with the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy), Adam Sherburne (formerly of the awful Until December) and Philip Steir. Consolidated plays highly political rap music and do it reasonably well, but they’ve got some big problems which detract. First of all, they’re incredibly self-righteous and pedantic. Unless you like being beaten over the head with issues, you’re not going to enjoy listening to Consolidated’s lyrics. Second of all, the music often seems secondary to the lyrics, which aren’t that strong in the first place. Third, they use the audience sample schtick too much (they’ll have little thirty second bits of audience sample between virtually every track and it really breaks up whatever momentum they build up). Although their good tracks are often quite good, the bad tracks and the attitude of "we’re right, you’re wrong, fuck you, you WILL listen to us" just drags them down. Listen to, say, Public Enemy or the Disposable Heroes instead (or the Goats, whose new album _Tricks of the Shade_ is great). As for the lyrics, well, I’d prefer not to post them. They aren’t that great, and I don’t feel like typing them up. Sorry.
