Question:
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Eric, I seem to recall that you are a registered nurse. Here’s my question, Martha Burk’s group, the National Council of Womens Organizations, lists the American Nurses Association as a member. Is the ANA a "womens organization"? Isn’t the nursing profession open to both sexes with equal opportunity? Does the ANA accept men as members? And the most important question, how do the interests of nursing professionals align with the radical feminist agenda of the NCWO? Do nurses demand a female member at Augusta National? -Robert BTW, my spell checker suggests COW in place of NCWO. Very interesting.
Robert, I have long been familiar with the American Nurses Association and have preferred not to have any affililation with them. Their agenda is clearly very feminist and it would not surprise me if they were affiliated with organizations as NOW. I have read their publications and was turned off by the high level of activism and strong rhetoric against doctors and the medical establishement. They want nurses empowered and believe they should be the driving force behind the medical establishement. Frankly, i am just content to put in a days work and go home and not be bothered by such nonsense. Men are welcome into the organization , but i doubt there are a whole lot of male members. The other thing is that the ANA is very active in union organizing activities and having worked in both union and non union environments over my career, i prefer non-union. Even if your pay and benefits are not perfect, i would find it very hard to walk out on sick patients. In answer to your question about nurses wanting a female member at Augusta National, i can only say that most nurses in my experience tend to be on the liberal side, so it would not surprise me if many of them would be in favor of a female member. It will be interesting to see how the whole situation develops. I heard Jessie Jackson is planning protests at the Masters. I saw Al Sharpton on TV the other day talking about this. I hope that this event does not become a circus. best regards, Eric

I think it would be funny if Hootie held a big news conference during Masters week and announced that ANGC had added a few women members "months ago." When they ask him why he didn’t announce it then he should just say, "Cause it was noneya damn business!"

Eric isn’t the only RN on RSG. I could care less when or if Augusta decides to have a female member. I get a little hot when someone refers to nursing as a female only profession. I only work so I can have a flexible schedule to play 3 or 4 times a week. I’d play more and work less, but greens fees cost money, and I have to do something productive. Of course the horse doesn’t help either. :) Sarah ICU nurse with good drugs and a bag full of Titleists.

Question:
Irony, I have no idea The phrase listed above is pregnant with meaning.
It means what it means in the context of the sentence in which it was written. If you want to interpret it otherwise, that’s your waste of time, but perhaps your form of entertainment? That’s fine. It seems you are accusing me of "disingenuousness" Call it misguided virtue if you must. It is alowed.
Tell me how I have used "misguided virtue?" I have done nothing dishonest or without virtue. You are coming from left field here with an accusation that means absolutely nothing. I know I am a powerful person, but The statement listed above is interesting.
It sure is! If you were to choose which of the three statements below illustrat the most powerful person would it be one two or three? 1. I know I am a powerful person. 2. I know I am powerful enough to apreciate how powerful I am not. 3. My knowledge of my power is such that I feel no need to verbaly assert my power and in fact I seldom think of it . The three grades of power listed above coinside with three grades of intelectual power, that being what personal power is!
Everyone is a powerful person, Irony, born with a divine spark which we either chose to accept or chose not to accept to use for the good of ourselves and the world. It is indeed sad that some folks aren’t aware of their own personal power. This actually is beyond the concept of pure intellectual matters. Do you know you are also a powerful person with the same divine spark for good? It is a wonderful thing, indeed! Because I am in touch with mine, what you say in regards to my honesty (which is solid) matters not at all because your comments do not change a thing. Your beliefes about me are an illusion. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Now, as to that bloody question. I never said I would answer it, but only that I knew the answer. Lordy, Lordy, how the chickens do come home to roost, that is if Ironrod herds the chickens of truth in your direction. Ironrod did ask of Artemis this question: "What was peculiar about a bed post on the bed of Odysseus?" Which "hen house" of an answer looks like the most fit place to house the chickens of truth? I Artemis know the answer to your question Ironrod. I Artemis know the answer to your question Ironrod, the peculiarity about a bed post on the bed of Odysseus was that the post was the trunk of an olive tree rooted to the ground.
Sigh. Again, you miss my point. Again, that’s your choice. it is neither "lame" nor "dishonest" that I chose to go on to discuss the real points The real points were on the tops of the heads of Artemus and Thomas Mohr for having the dull witted hubrus to think that they could illustrate cultural superiority to a non-deracinated White Male by showing a knowledge of European Culture superior to his.
The real point of a thread and of this newsgroup are matters of activism. My goals as an activist are to help the world get rid of racism, sexism, homophobia, religious intolerance, and the like. A huge goal, but thank God, not one that I am concerned with alone. There are many good people in this world. It doesn’t make one bit of difference what you think. Is the thought listed above a prayer for deliverence from your owm folly?
It is an expression of personal power that what you say makes no difference. My prayer is for love and peace to someday envelop the Earth. Artemis is of no interest to Ironrod from this point onward.
Bye-bye, my friend. A.

Which was fine considering that they were not allowed to exercise power (with the exception of Queens who inhereted power). Sorry about the premature pressing of the "send" icon but really Thomas Mohr your superficial intellect amuses me so much that I am often beside myself with joy. You are forever acting like a twelve year old boy. Mohr what is your age? Your statement "especially in medieval times" shows that you do not realize that chivalry was a contemporaneous expression within its era of a uniformly unchanging position of women within White Society, the degeneration of which did not occur until the present era! Allow me to illustrate my point by relating plot elements of an Icelandic Saga. Once there was a married man who had been sentenced to banishment by The Althane. The man decided to not comply with his banishment and went to be with his wife in his home. His neighbors formed a posse to put him to death and attacked him while he was in his home. While fending off the posse from the doorway of his home his bow string broke. When he asked his wife to donate some of her long hair to be twisted into a replacement bow string she refused by asking him if he remembered the time he had slapped her. The response of the husband to his wife’s refusal was his choice to die fighting with a broken bow string rather than take hair from the head of his wife against her will. It is interesting that many of the laws condemned as oppressing women were actually enacted by White Males for the protection of women.

"Look behind the letters"? I was about to write you a damn fine Essay but I deleted it. You are correct in stating that the letters should be looked behind. This is why more than thirty-five years ago I chose a literal translation of Homer’s Odyssey (and Iliad) rather than the popularized translations. However…your reference to the ruse used by the wife of Odysseus to establish his identity is in front of the letters. So what is behind the letters? A great variety of symbols would have served the purpose of illustrating the ruse concept. Not all of these symbols would serve another purpose served by a bed post that was an olive tree trunk rooted to the ground. So what was the other purpose you ask? Well this is obvious is it not? The other purpose was the same purpose that was served by the Epic Poets decision to have the hound of Odysseus die after viewing the return home of Odysseus! GET IT! Question number one for Thomas Mohr: In this Epic Homer chooses to use the symbol of a bedpost that was a rooted olive trunk and the symbol of the death of a loyal dog for the very same important reason. What was this reason? Question number two for Thomas Mohr: In this Poem Homer feels the need to achieve the answer to question number one with two different symbols. Why? A generous hint for the first question (big surprise) is the word Epic. A generous hint for the second question (Another big surprise) is the word Poem. Your move Thomas Mohr. And take my advice. If you want to see behind the letters try to get close to them with a literal translation or the original Greek! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Look who’s complaining ! (The worst offender was the Graham Nash song — which is a 1971 song!) I’ve seen messages in other NGs which really offer no praise whatsoever to the movie, but I didn’t think it was that bad. I suppose most people on the Internet can and will vehemently voice opposing opinions (sorry, no alliteration intended.) Also, did anyone see Becker last night? How was it? (It’s one of my favorites, but I watched the 60s instead.) bw 8-{)
Response:
I didn’t watch "The 60’s" because I didn’t want to see a very important influential part of my life trivialized. I hope that maybe the show was more than I gave it credit for. The late 60’s and early 70’s shaped my social, cultural, and political points of view. I need to be careful, I’m sounding really old here–sigh. Kate

Even though I work for an NBC affiliate, I’ve got to admit that you didn’t miss much other than some great music (some of which I haven’t heard in years). The events of the sixties were skimmed over so quickly that nothing had any real significance. A mini-series that should have run at least ten to twelve hours but was done in four would leave anyone who DIDN’T live the sixties feeling that it was all trivial and insignificant. I must admit, however, that it brought back some incredibly vivid memories, bith good adn bad. Larry J.

I didn’t see the show (don’t see many shows), but given that I was born in ‘61, my recollections of the 60’s are more of the ‘Wonder Years’ variety. I do think however that it’s important to open our eyes to where we’ve been –especially through the perspective of others– so that we are always questioning our beliefs. Who we are is made up of our beliefs based on our experience and analysis of same — ALL of our beliefs can’t be ‘right’ . . . we could be doing better for ourselves if we recognize that and change the ones that don’t work. Personally I found the 1860s to be more interesting and stimulating (particularly living in the South). But there were less drugs available. Kate
I did tape the miniseries and plan on viewing it — if I should ever feel nostalgic. James

Question:
I am looking for the lyrics of a song from a girl band, I think its name is CONSOLIDATED. They sound like APPOLLONIA 6 did, and they seem to be much more explicit. The title of the song is NOW YOU SUCK, or something like this. I would not be surprised to learn that they are *close* to the feminist activism. Please post these lyrics for everybody here, it will be a very good *alternative* to the usual messages.
The song in question is a collaboration between CONSOLIDATED (All male) and the YEASTIE GIRLS (sic) (All girl). C-Ya J0N

The song is indeed YOU SUCK from CONSOLIDATED, but CONSOLIDATED is a bunch of political/vegetarian guys from San Francisco who do this quasi-techno-rap thing. They’re OK. My roommate really liked them. The track is from their new album called PLAY MORE MUSIC on Nettwerk, I think, and the girls are the YEASTIE GIRLS. It says so in the liner notes. I’m not making it up. YOU SUCK(Music by Concolidated lyrics by the Yeastie Girls) I know your really proud cause you think you’re well hung But I think it’s time you learn how to use your tounge You say you want things to be even and you want things to be fair But your afraid to get your teeth caught in my pubic hair If you’re lying there expecting me to suck your dick You’re going to have to give me more than just a token lick Well you may not like it but you better learn how Cause its your turn now Now you suck suck it hard go down baby you suck lick it hard and move your tounge around If you’re worried about babies you can lower your risk By giving me that special cunnilingus kiss It’s on your face that I’m going to sit You can wiggle you can jiggle your tounge on my clit Don’t worry about making me have an orgasm Just take your time and do it with enthusiasm I can tell it’s making you scared just thinking of it But you better learn to love it CHORUS When you hear safe sex you snicker under your breath WE got to take cover we’re flirting with death AIDS is our problem we’ve got to talk So break out your dental dam and your latex sock I’m your latex lover wraped like a gift Got my microwave plastic wrap heating up my clit Dinner’s on get busy with my booty Got a couple of flavors seet licorice and fruity I know you’re sad luscious pussy with a cover I’m aching too we can’t taste eachother There’s no slacking off with an unprotected stroke This ain’t no Joke CHORUS Well I know you think it’s a real drag To suck my cunt when I’m on the rag Quit making up stories yeah give me a break Cause I really don’t believe that you got a headache You tell me it’s gross to suck my yeast infection How do think I feel when I gag on your erection Your wasting your tounge with lame excuses and lies Get your face between my thighs CHORUS

Well, gosh, the three men who are Consolidated would probably be quite flattered to be called women, since they are constantly whining about being white american males. Anyway, the song you are referring to is entitled "You Suck", guest stars the Yeastie Girls and is on their latest full lengther, _Play More Music_. Consolidated is not, as I mentioned, a girl band at all, but is three guys: Mark Pistel (who has done work with the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy), Adam Sherburne (formerly of the awful Until December) and Philip Steir. Consolidated plays highly political rap music and do it reasonably well, but they’ve got some big problems which detract. First of all, they’re incredibly self-righteous and pedantic. Unless you like being beaten over the head with issues, you’re not going to enjoy listening to Consolidated’s lyrics. Second of all, the music often seems secondary to the lyrics, which aren’t that strong in the first place. Third, they use the audience sample schtick too much (they’ll have little thirty second bits of audience sample between virtually every track and it really breaks up whatever momentum they build up). Although their good tracks are often quite good, the bad tracks and the attitude of "we’re right, you’re wrong, fuck you, you WILL listen to us" just drags them down. Listen to, say, Public Enemy or the Disposable Heroes instead (or the Goats, whose new album _Tricks of the Shade_ is great). As for the lyrics, well, I’d prefer not to post them. They aren’t that great, and I don’t feel like typing them up. Sorry. "Anybody who thinks we overstepped the playground perimeter of lyrical decency (or that the public has any right to demand ’social responsibility’ from a goddamn punk rock band) is a pure natural dolt, and should step forward and put his tongue up my ass." – Steve Albini
