where else, ex-californians? (was opinions on cali.)
Question:
In the first place, if you’re asking EX-Californians, you’re asking the people who left there, some of us by choice. I used to live in Riverside (20 minutes south of San Bernadoodle). So Cal has the beach, the desert, the mountains, several amusement parks, shopping, and more, all within a reasonable drive from S.B. BTW, I assume you were referring to Cal State San Bernardino. What will you be studying there? (I know one of the economics profs). Gronx Usually I like to keep an open mind, but right now it’s closed for repairs.
Response:
Hi!! I am moving to San Bernardino on the 27th of this month. Dont tell me it is horrible there, because my hubby got a job there and I can go to grad school there! I am actually looking forward to not having snow…. Can anyone say anything positive about Cali? Dawn Bennett Feminism is to Lavender as Womanism is to Purple (unknown)

Response:
I spent alot of time in Venice Beach and Santa Monica. I’m much happier where I am now. {sorry… it’s a secret} I tell you this, it’s nowhere near L.A. though.
Response:
I grew up in the LA suburbs. Moved to Atlanta 14-15 years ago. People thought I was crazy at the time, but it turned out to be a good move — a growing city vs. one that went through a bad recession, etc. It was tough moving away, but on the whole I’ve been happy here. I spent the first 4-5 years constantly comparing the two places and mourning, to a greater then a lesser degree. I spent the next 5 years adjusting. And the next 5 years become "southernized." I finally graduated last year, when one of my friends noted that I was now fully southernized. Southernized meaning you’re completely acclimated, sort of honorary citizenship award. I’m proud. Sure, I’m recovering from depression, but not because of a move 15 years ago. That would be quite a delayed posttraumatic stress incident. Although some say, we leave a part of ourselves wherever we live. I’m sure when I left my life in LA, a part of my stayed to enjoy the sun and smog! S. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – what i really meant to ask was, since so many here have strong opinions on california and many have left, where did y’all go that you like better? if you hated l.a., where are you now? that type of thing. for those wondering ‘what does this have to do with depression?’ — i value a depressed opinion. seems more relevant. selene I was born and raised in Santa Monica, now live near Boston. Have lived in New England for about 8 years. Moved out of California, had no job, no place to live, but was afraid of growing old and dying in Los Angeles. Most people in New England either say "are you nuts…how could you leave California?" or they say "hmmm…from California…you must be strange". My reasons for leaving in no specific order: Smog, crime, crowds, traffic, cost of housing, sun (yes…sun, I’m very fair skinned), desire to see how the rest of the country lived…etc. Do I miss California? Absolutely, but not as much as I love New England. Been depressed in both regions, rather be depressed here! Peace

Oregon. Hate it, too. Too much rain. Too many redneck assholes. Too many dogs. Not enough money. Not enough jobs. Everything costs too damn much. Too much rain. Too many Fundamentalists. Too much rain. I’m gonna go back to CA, but NOT LA – never lived there – never would. Santa Cruz. Maybe Santa Barbara. BTW, HELL-A is NOT California! Just a big ugly festering sore on its ass. for those wondering ‘what does this have to do with depression?’ — i value a depressed opinion. seems more relevant.
HAHAAH!! Sounds right to me! selene
