Riot Grrrl – Final (serious) words….
Question:
: Graham Lister… : I admit that some (possibly most) of my remarks have been imflammatory. This : , I will freely admit has been deliberate, as I feel that alternative opinions : are very rarely taken notice of or publicised. : Gosh Graham, can’t you do any better than Usenet Lusers Excuse #1 "I was just : trying to stir up some controversy"? Your statements were those of a bigot. : If you want to recant them at this point, go ahead, but save us from the lame : excuses, hm? : I’m not recanting anything. If you’d got past my opening paragraph you : would have seen my point, but you didn’t want to did you? The fact that you’re : wasting you’re life doesn’t bother you at all does it? You don’t count, sucker, : so don’t pretend you do. Sounds to me, like thast intro was intended to reacnt the "inflammatory" (read *asshole*) tone of your earlier posts. Your position as stated is rather weaker than some of the things you said earlier. My guess is that you began to think you were looking like a jerk, so tried to cut down the emotional content… unfortunately you’ve already revealed yourself to _be_ a jerk, so it’s a waste of time. I don’t know about his life, but you seem not to have convinced anybody of oanything judging by the responses, so maybe you’re the one who doesn’t matter in this context. – David

I’m not recanting anything. If you’d got past my opening paragraph you would have seen my point, but you didn’t want to did you? OK – Ive annoyed a lot of people, and possibly made a few slightly over the top statements.
The fact remains, however, that any form of youth rebellion is doomed to failure as soon as the perpitrators grow up and leave the safety of their families/colleges/whatever. At present, the riot grrrl movement appears to be the dominant form of this rebellion, and so I felt it necessary to make my views on the subject known, and to ascertain whether there were others who felt the same way as me. Much to my chagrin, however, there were only a couple of people who spoke out against riot grrrl and militant feminism. I can only put this down to the ‘limp-wristed liberal’ factor, which causes relatively normal blokes to come down on the side of ridiculous causes to avoid looking like fascists or whatever they think other people are going to view them as. All I’m saying is, is that I’m not misogynist, but that I’m just in favour of equality and maturity, something that many of the correspondents on this matter seem to be against. Equality means not persecuting people because of their gender (banning men from grrrl gigs), and maturity in accepting other view points, and perhaps that they’ve overstepped the mark sometimes. I admit that some (possibly most) of my remarks have been imflammatory. This , I will freely admit has been deliberate, as I feel that alternative opinions are very rarely taken notice of or publicised. Unfortunately, most people adhere to the majority view and so leave little time for lone voices of sanity. (I’m not saying that’s me, but hey, everyone deserves the right to air their views). I’m sure the majority of narrow-minded readers of this will continue to flame, but I like to think that the underlying points I was trying to bring to your attention have been noticed and that some people may even agree with them. If you don’t, and you still believe in rebellion and/or extreme feminism then that’s you’re prerogative, but at least you’ve been exposed to an alternate view. Peace, harmony and ambience, Rich.
