Crochet–Newbie needs help!!

Question:

I am just learning to crochet and was wondering if there were any great sites for beginners.  My boyfriend’s mother taught me how to make a granny square with a rose in the middle. I am thinking about starting an afgan but I don’t know how much yarn I will need or a good place to get my yarn.  Any suggestions?? Denise Denise
