Postmodernism and the Social Sciences: Human Agency, Self, and Culture Coordinator, Joseph M. Miller, Ph.D. Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, 1997 New School For Social Research Graduate Faculty of Political and Social Science 65 Fifth Avenue at 14th Street (Greenwich Village) New York, New York Within contemporary research in the social and behavioral sciences, theories of human agency influenced by the physical sciences are being challenged by postmodern, social constructionist approaches influenced by developments in contemporary literature, art, philosophy, and popular culture. In an attempt to understand the foundations of postmodernism and its influence on contemporary science and society, the current conference will focus on recent developments in the social sciences and the impact of postmodernism on contemporary understandings of human agency, self, science, and culture. In the discussion of these topics attention will be focused on the related themes of postmodern social theory, identity politics, feminism, the science wars, rationality, cultural theory, and the methodological foundations of social inquiry. It’s a support group for not just BPD, but other personality disorders as well.
