More dirty tricks by Dutch environmentalists
Question:
If the environmentalists want to be taken seriously, then they need to stop the civil disobedience and work _within the system_ to effect change. They will not be taken seriously until they do. They have impeded Schiphol expansion for years (and expansion equals more jobs). Their act is wearing thin! Maryanne

Exactly! That’s what I told M.K. Gandhi, but the hotheaded idiot wouldn’t listen.

Judging from my visit to St. Martin a year ago, I’d say the Dutch deserve to be seriously hassled by environmentalists. The north half of St. Martin is French, the south half is Dutch. The difference between the two halves is very striking. The Dutch are not sensitive to the natives, the local culture, the future of the island at all. They allow any kind of development to take place and do not maintain the infrastructure very well (roads, etc.). The French have put strict controls on development and keep up the roads, street lights, quite well. The French side is alot more pleasant to visit and simply look at. The French are taking a long term approach concerning development of the island. The Dutch are sort of economically raping St. Martin. 10 years from now the Dutch side will be a shambles. Tourists (except for cruise ships) will simply not go there any more. The French side will be just as quaint as it is today. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – –I heard that recently the authorities at Amsterdam Schiphol airport were suspicious about a large number of calls to their noise complaint line. They got the telecom company to investigate, and apparently 4000 calls had come from just 6 people! This is the most recent in a series of fraudulant activities by extreme environmental groups. On a previous occasion, the authorities at a regional airport in Holland were perplexed to receive calls complaining about the noise from a particular flight, because the flight had not operated that day, it had been cancelled. It turned out that there was an organized system whereby people picked a flight out of the timetable and would then call and complain about the noise from it, even if they hadn’t heard it! –==++AJC++==–

Similar story here at the Toronto Island Airport (YTZ ?) which prohibits jet-powered planes. When a "quite" test plane (CRJ ?) was due to arrive, the airport authority received massive numbers of complaints from the "squatters" on the island regarding the noise level. The plane was actually delayed by hours, and had yet to arrive by the time the complaints were launched. Heard this from an Air Ontario ramp worker at the Island Airport. –I heard that recently the authorities at Amsterdam Schiphol airport were suspicious about a large number of calls to their noise complaint line.
