Question:

Just got my latest Seed of Change catalog. (Boy, I love this catalog. Unfortunately, I’ve not quite gotten the hang of apartment gardening, so I can only vouch for their Italian parsley.) The "Letter form The Editor" is informative and inspiring, as usual.

Would it please be possible to provide the name and address of where to procure a copy of your, "favorite seed catalogue?"      Thanks very much.                          All best regards,                          Marc Martin, SYSOP for AMPIE                          Manhattan, New York City, USA

A stat from the "Letter"  (while not footnoted, perhaps the book by the Editor  – "Seeds of Change: the Living Treasure" Kenny Ausubel Harper San Fran 1994 —  has the sources): *agribusiness today use 20 plant varieties for 90 percent of our food, although  there are an estimated 80 k food plants. *since 1900 of the variety of food plants our grandparents ate only 3% are still  available today. Kenny Ausubel makes many arguments against the patenting of seeds, and points to  legislation in the US which may eliminate farmer’s rights to sell some fraction  of the seeds they grow.  (Using what may be the slippery slope argument) he  argues that farmer’s rights to save their own seeds may be the next to be  revoked. For a legislative update contact R.A.F.I., 101 Hillsboro St., PO Box 655, Pittsboro, NC 27312  919-542-1396 Just passing it along…. —
