This is NOT a "spiritual couple".

This last statement is rather ironic. I have not seen the movie myself (and won’t), but according to what I have heard (and heard, and heard, and heard), it is one of the most violent, bloody movies ever made. The comment "This movie made ‘Looking for Private Ryan’ look like a Disney Movie" was used to describe it. It only seems natural that watching THAT MUCH violence on the screen would naturally result in this type of behavior. DIVa — Unemployed? Lonely? Overweight? What one sees in "The Passion Of The Christ" depends on ones assumptions. Christ’s teachings on not responding to violence with more violence, not responding to hatred with more hatred, are form a spiritual basis that underlies the history of modern peace activism and humanitarian works. I saw in this movie a call to renounce the damaging effects of anger in my life, and a truly inspiring example of doing this — one that dwarfs my experiences. IMO this is a more powerful movie for affirming the faith of Christians who understand the Biblical meaning of what is happening than it is a movie for spreading this faith to those who lack this background. — Tsam

"Ignoramus3239 <ignoramus3…@NOSPAM.3239.invalid>" posted a story about a couple that went to "The Passion of the Christ" and then got into an argument which ended in violence and arrest. A police officer was quoted as saying: "Really, it was kind of a pitiful thing, to go to a movie like that and fight about it. I think they missed the point." Gibson has some brilliant touches in this movie, and I suppose some may be too subtle for part of the audience, so they do miss the point. In a flashback, we see Jesus writing in the sand, and a woman crawling over to him, and a mob of people holding rocks — the mob is turning away, dropping their rocks on the ground as they go. This is clearly a snapshot from the story of the woman taken in adultery from John 8 (<http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?passage=JOHN+8:1-11>). At a later point in the movie, we see Mary Magdalene (I think that was who it was supposed to be), witnessing the Romans mistreatment of Jesus, and she is kneeling on the ground — and she presses her hands to the ground and squeezes her fingers together, picking up two fistfuls of rocks. And then she seems to realise what it is she is doing, and she lets them fall to the ground again. * Sometimes, after an action movie, people talk about how cool it was, with all the explosions and shooting and so on. When we saw "Saving Private Ryan", nobody leaving the cinema with us was talking about how cool all the battle scenes were. Anyone who saw "Saving Private Ryan" was definitely exposed to lots of extremely realistic violence — and anybody who came out of that movie more inclined to violence definitely missed the point. The same is true of "The Passion of the Christ".
