Science Fiction – books mostly, but also films and TV (favorite authors: Spider Robinson, Robert Heinlein, Orson Scott Card, Anne McCaffrey, Tanya Huff, Frank Hebert, Dean Ing, Ben Bova, Isaac Asimov, William C. Dietz, Larry Niven, and hundreds more I just can’t think of now) Ballet (I used to be a dancer when I was young – back in the stone age) Web Programming – I not only made a career of it, but I do it for fun and volunteer to do it for a NPO. Biking (not racing or mountain biking, just biking round the block) Hiking Camping Yoga (new one) Writing I’m sure I’ll think of more as others list theirs and make me go, "Oh yeah, me too!" ; Hugs, CatNipped

I’ll probably forget some, but … martial arts (specifically mostly taekwondo) downhill skiing (doing, not watching) mountain biking (doing, not watching) reading fiddling around with computers (especially open source stuff) driving my WRX riding my beemer motorcycle ice hockey (playing, not watching) sleeeep! (when I can get enough, which is rarely) DH and I watched all of the Buffy episodes on DVD and are now plowing our way through the Angel series, I think mostly because of Buffy withdrawal. When I was in high school and college I played the Rifts RPG, and I still like reading the source books, but I just haven’t gotten around to doing anything with it since then. — monique, who spoils Oscar unmercifully pictures: http://www.bounceswoosh.org/rpca

Wow! You sure have an exciting list of varied interests. Do you fly? I used to fly. I got my private pilot license when I was 45 and flew for about 5 years before money and other things forced me to give it up. Nowadays my interests, other than my cats are mostly: Toastmasters (I belong to three Toastmasters clubs and visit others) Travel, especially to Australia and Alaska Reading (especially mysteries, but including some sci fi, biography and other non-fiction) Games – Palabra, Taboo, Malarkey, Balderdash, Pictionary and Trivial Pursuit. I belong to a group that divides into two teams to play Trivial Pursuit once a month. Joy

Me too! I got my license when I was in my early 30’s, flew for about 3 years, stopped when it got too expensive. I haven’t flown in probably 15 years now. Dan

Hey, I was in Air Cadets! From age 13-18, I belonged to 848 Royal Roads squadron in Victoria, BC. Got my glider pilots licence when I was 16 in Princeton and my private pilots licence the next summer in Victoria. Air cadets was great for me because before that I used to be very shy, now not shy at all anymore. And I got my pilots licence, which came in handy because I ended up going to Selkirk College and getting my commercial multi-IFR. Although I don’t fly anymore, I’m still interested in aviation, although being married to a helicopter pilot has convinced me that helicopters are vastly superiour to airplanes
Other things that I’m into are: weightlifting and fitness travelling photography stained glass scuba diving photoshop reality TV (my guilty pleasure!) drinking really good Australian wine reading shopping (how could I not be, living in Thailand!) — Britta "There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast." — Unknown Check out pictures of Vino at: http://photos.yahoo.com/badwilson click on the Vino album

Cary tends to fill most of the times I’d have otherwise spent on my "other interests" however, back before he came along: Food & drink. Eating out, especially with friends at the cheap eats type of restaurant. An apprentice wine snob Scifi & fantasy. I tend towards the Fantasy end, Joel tends towards the ‘hard’ sci-fi with military stuff end, but there’s enough of an overlap there that our book collection melded seamlessly. Pratchett & Douglas Adams are *major* influences, and my guilty secret is enjoying Stephen King on occasion. Roleplaying, especially dark gothic horror. The less dice, the better (says she with a huge dice collection). Before we became breeders, we went to roleplaying conventions and we’d win at least one "best player" trophy between us each con, often more. Geek stuff. I am a geek (see above for clues). I like science and maths and other geeky things. There’s . Gadgets and toys are cool. Silly putty fun, but glop is groovy…. I could waste the rest of my life surfing the internet…. Knitting & crochet…. its constructive fidgetting. I rarely if ever finish anything, but can follow the most amazingly intricate patterns in those "knitting bibles" even if I unravel it to do the next one. Drawing & painting. I’m grossly out of practice and don’t have the time for it anymore, but I *used* to be quite good at it. I still like going to art galleries though. Theology. For some reason I am fascinated with what people believe… and more interestingly *why*. And anything else that takes my fancy at the time…. Yowie

Tee hee! That’s the thought that’s been making me giggle all day, Helen. =o) Kind of like the quote. "Outside of a dog a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read." Silliness aside and in no particular order, Writing (it’s amazing how many people on many of the electronic forums I’ve posted to say this. =o) Nevertheless, I actually HAVE been working quite hard at my writing for about 20 years now, and have received enough encouragement from people whose opinions I trust to keep at it. This leads into my next interest which is reading some fantasy and sci-fi. I’m a LOTR fan, and have been from the age of about 12. My interest in writing AND fantasy has got me involved in the projects listed on this link: http://www.derynirealms.com/ I helped with the Deryni Adventure Game, and am one of a team of contributing authors on the Deryni Atlas. FudgeRPG is devising role playing games based on the Deryni Universe created by Katherine Kurtz. I have been a fan of hers for 20 years and more, and I can credit her with my early fascination with writing. She is also a very warm, nice person. Other interests include: Cooking Needlepoint (This doesn’t get a lot of attention, these days. But I find it very soothing when I’m agitated. Watercolor painting. (NIna is fascinated by this, and she always seems to want to put her mark on my paintings, preferably in the form of a pawprint on a not quite dry wash…Arrrrgh. I have done a few cat paintings, but I have to work from photographs, as my models tend to be very uncooperative about holding poses for very long.) Travel (Although I don’t have the budget for it, really) But love of travel and painting lead me to take a two week painting trip to Italy in September 2003, and it was FABULOUS. =o) liberal/progressive politics The TV program The West Wing Dabbling my feet a little in photography, but mostly just in the form of snapshots. Singing (classical singing, in days of yore.) Haven’t done that for many years, but enjoyed it while I did. The most interested I get in sports is watching the Olympics whenever they’re on, but I am definitely ready for them to stop about 4 days before the games are over. I’m more of an O-lumpic sports person, as I’m a sedentary person with a terrible sweet tooth. Melissa
